Re: UNLV Rebels
What's up with the Steven Smith character who was murdered 5 years ago? They just threw that in towards the end. What's the connection?

Re: UNLV Rebels
Maybe some of Smith's crowd was getting revenge on the Murdock's for sweeping his murder investigation under the rug and figured now was a great time b/c it would look like some of that other crowd (the fambly of the girl that got killed in the boating accident) had done the deed...

Family. Friend. Someone who has sympathy for her is behind this. Him stealing from his firm mucks that up though but I think her cover up is behind it.

Re: UNLV Rebels
What about the other case from 5 years ago? What does that have to do with any of this?

Re: UNLV Rebels
Some evidence has come to light as a result of the murders' investigation that warrants the 5 year old murder case to be opened up.

Re: UNLV Rebels
Most people think Murdaugh killed his wife and kid. Maybe to get insurance money? I don't know. Maybe because more investigation into his kid's manslaughter with the boat would bring to light the cooperation of the family with investigators?
Another possibility is that he was involved with an opiate drug ring that he owed money.

It wouldn't be the first time that a scion of some old money, Low Country family gets busted for bringing drugs in via Beaufort and Hilton Head...sardis wrote: ↑Tue Sep 07, 2021 12:17 pm Most people think Murdaugh killed his wife and kid. Re: UNLV Rebels
It appears that Alex Murdaugh tried to stage his own death to get his son $10M to pay back the money he embezzled

Re: UNLV Rebels
Murdaugh's attorney came out this morning to say that his client did set up the suicide utilizing his friend and that his friend was his drug dealer and Murdaugh is a victim of Oxy being pushed on him so much he stole millions of dollars from his firm to pay for his addiction.
Good statement by reporter, "That's alot of Oxy." I'll ask you addicts on here, can someone spend millions on opioids just on himself? He's got to be dealing.

Yes. It's not just the drugs. It's the actions while using that can make the numbers high.

Re: UNLV Rebels
Given the type of lifestyle he appears to have been living and the fact that this was likely going on for years upon years, it's not out of the realm of possibility. The $10m trust account claim is crazy though. If the firm didn't notice $10m in trust funds until now, all attorneys with supervising authority over the trust account(s) should be disbarred or least disbarred with a stay of said disbarment pending satisfaction of certain conditions. It's South Carolina though. Crazy shit happens with discipline cases in SC....Jungle Rat wrote: ↑Wed Sep 15, 2021 12:56 pm Yes. It's not just the drugs. It could very well be along the lines of running up his firm credit card(s) on personal items, using the firm's credit line and then entering the items in the books as something to do with a case (As Sardis can attest...Plaintiffs firms that do big cases like that firm does/did need to have access to multi-million dollar credit lines to survive) and pilfering trust money here and there. Still, $10m is a hell of a lot to pull off without someone noticing...unless it had been going on for 15-20 years, in which case he pulled it off with sloppy bookkeeping on the firm's part. Still, even then someone catches it in an audit.
It's the Low Country. There's no way the firm has clean hands, and he didn't just take $10m. As an attorney, this is what intrigues me. The other stuff is interesting, but the money is going to be the fun part.
I would not be surprised if it comes out some other attorney's turned a blind eye to Murdaugh using the firm for money laundering or as the "bank" to front money for wholesale drug purchases.

Re: UNLV Rebels
Actually, there aren't a whole lot of actions when it comes to narcotics. Just sitting on the couch and nodding out until it's time to score again. It ain't like a junkie is going to run up massive restaurant bills. Or any restaurant bills...Jungle Rat wrote: ↑Wed Sep 15, 2021 12:56 pm Yes. It's not just the drugs.
