got back around 1am this morning, in the office today for the first time since March 2020.

Started off in Seattle. I traveled to Seattle frequently about 10-12 years ago, thought it was a great town.

I know its a bit of cliche' for a conservative to bag on a progressive city but wow, Seattle, its doesn't give off a murder dangerous feel like say Chicago, but ugh, its a shit hole.

I don't have alot of experience hanging out in the heart of large cities - mostly Chicago, Detroit and Cinci. All I can say is I definitely didn't feel safe in regular daylight areas and while there was some nice things in Seattle, I didn't want to experience any of it while dealing with homeless crazy people..and they are everywhere, not just a guy standing on a busy corner with a cardboard sign, I'm talking multiple people on every block , at least within a 10 square block area around Pike Market

Left Seattle to go to Mt Rainier national park, then moved on to the upper panhandle of Idaho. If I knew at 25 what I knew now, I'd save up $10K, move there and figure out a way to live there the rest of my life. Of course I recognize I saw it in June and not February, but I think I'm a snowmobile, snow shoe kinda guy anyways as long as I can get out and do stuff and not be homebound. Anyways, I loved Montana but Northern Idaho is great - I wish I could figure out a way to live there - and I should have done it 20 years ago when I could just take off and bike, kayak or hike all day without having to get in shape to do it. My wife and I ended up hiking two black diamond trails that were 7+ miles which I think isn't a slouch for someone my age and we did several moderate trails of varying lengths.

Glacier is amazing but everything that is popular is super crowded. I avoided the most popular stuff and found 2 blow you away with scenery trails in Flathead which runs parallel to the park. I think Whitefish Montana isn't my speed - it has kind of an Aspen vibe to it. I enjoyed staying right off the main drag in Whitefish - had a great Italian place 2 blocks from our rental and a grocery 3 blocks away . That said, for two of us, even getting a pizza in that town was $35. Kalispell with its Wal-Mart, Target and fast food was a better fit for me. Couer D'Alene Idaho was a good mix - high dollar areas, fast food areas, mom and pop diners/burger stands , a Costco, Wal-Mart , and a winery next to a tractor supply.

Now we are in my sweet spot. I wouldn't want to live there, but a city like maybe 20 miles north called Sandpoint is just gorgeous. You can't swing a dead cat up there without hitting a lake backing up to a mountain range, so finding a place to call home with a view is the norm. Go about 10 miles north of Sandpoint and you're in more wildlife than people territory.

To get to every trail we hiked you eventually had to drive several miles on a one lane dirt road. We rented a little buick suv that is AWD. I never actually needed AWD but had it been raining we would have. I beat the hell out of that car though. felt so bad I washed it before I returned it, which is a first for me renting a car.

Anyways, awesome vacation, highly recommend people doing exactly what we did, land in Seattle and work your east or even take the Amtrak from Chicago which stops just a short distance from the entrance to Glacier and work your way West.

I'd say from our experience, the Covid lockdown is over - lines everywhere and we had to put some effort into avoiding people on the trails.
