I've never really understood the shotgun - or any long gun as a home defense weapon.

Maybe if I am sitting in the living room , I'm awake and I see something bad happening, then a shotgun is the ideal self defense tool.

but if its 2am, I"m in a deep sleep and something jolts me awake - I want to be able to reach down into a drawer and grab a gun where I don't have to load a round into a chamber, and just pull the trigger, plus a revolver is a cheap enough weapon, you can pick up a basic double action for $300 and ammo, even during a shortage is readily available

that said, ease of firing needs to be respected. Few if any of us have ever been the victim of a home invasion and I don't ever want to confuse my kid coming home with a buzz with someone breaking into my home.

I've had that happen to me where my mom pulled a gun on me late at night after coming in thru the back porch where I knew she had a key hidden.
I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.

This is why both cops recommended the Taurus Judge revolver for home defense. Functionally, its easy to use for home defense AND you could only harm an intruder.

Apparently Smith and Wesson came out with a similar revolver just to compete in the Judge's "market" if such a thing exists.

DS, I get what the cops told me to get. No offense DS, I trust cops over you. Taurus Judge revolver is much easier to handle than a shotgun. And it has option. You can use .410 shot, or .45 rounds. Both work.

YMMV.
A light 20 gauge has little to no recoil, you have a greater chance of hitting the target at close range due to the spread of the shot pattern and volume of shot (much higher than a .410) and you don't need to worry about the carry of a pistol or rifle round, especially a .45 ACP.

You are a goddamned idiot, and the Rambo wannabe's who watch PornHub and XHamster all of the time don't know 1/10 of what they claim.

I have had to stop keeping it under the bed now that I have a small child, but I have kept a loaded shotgun underneath my bed for years. If something wakes me up at night, the first instinct is to roll over and grab it.

I think this is just political for you because you buy in on the DNC platform that you don't think ordinary citizens should be allowed to own handguns. And you are trying to find an argument to support that position without saying its purely political.

You mean since the repubs ousted the most conservative member in the House from her leadership position simply b/c she refused to toss Trump's salad like the rest of the repubs in DC?

AlabamAlum wrote: Mon May 10, 2021 7:35 pm Re: 870 vs a Mossy. I have both. Prefer the 870. Tighter slide and a steel receiver (as opposed to aluminum for the Mossberg). It’s okay for home defense if you don’t have a house full of people (like a bunch of kids). I can centerline you with a pistol without fear of hitting a close-by kid with a spray of shot.

The Judge: what I don’t like is limited capacity and if you use shot, you have the same problem as above, as well.

I’m also not a huge fan of the older 1911s like what hedge details. They also have limited capacity and have a higher rate of failure-to-extract/eject. I have a few of them, but it wouldn’t be my go-to in a self defense setting. A Glock or Sig gets that honor. I’ve shot competitively with both.
The 870 and Benelli Nova are the ultimate pump guns, imho. I used a Nova when I was big into duck hunting, and I have a couple of 870's. The 870 is the best bang for the buck in guns. Those receivers last forever. Dad was a Browning nut, but that's because he shot left handed (he was naturally left handed but his mother and older sister "broke" him from being left handed and made him use his right hand because that's what everyone did back then) and the BPS ejects from the bottom.

I get what you're saying regarding centerline, but I don't claim to be a crack shot. If it's dark and I'm somewhat groggy, I'm worried about where the bullet may travel. I would rather take my chances which a full choked shotgun. Plus, if you're living in a well built house and have 1/2 or 5/8 drywall with 2x4 studs, chances are any mid to higher number shot will be caught in the walls at some point.

Re 1911's, if you were going to buy one, which one would you buy?

I am going to get a Glock 21 at some point, but I have never been as intrigued by pistols as I am long guns.

She also had like a 14% approval rating in her home state. She was dead man walking for her fixation on Trump

maybe she'll pull a lazarus here, but why she tanked her political career to go after Trump 24/7 I'll never understand.

Maybe if her last name was McCain I'd get it.

price point I'd go with Rock Island Armory. Kimber also makes a really good base model.

The 1911 is my favorite handgun. I prefer a single stack shooter.

No. My father was law enforcement for ten years after he left farming and before he went into business. I appreciate law enforcement, but even my father would be the first to tell you that far too many young law enforcement officers were ill-trained, ill-suited (in terms of temperment) assholes on power/ego trips.

I own several handguns and think sane, non-dangerous people should be allowed to own handguns, shotguns and rifles, but I see no reason some asshat should be allowed to own high-capacity, rapid-fire (i.e. weapons that can be easily converted to full-auto via internal or external means) firearms.

In 2015, Donald Trump saw the $100 bill on the street and picked up. He changed the GOP platform.

In response, the democrats just calls them all racists. Democrats don't give a shit about immigration (and there is no such thing as an "illegal alien") because to a democrat, "all are welcome." So no one spoke to one another. Nothing has changed with Biden as President.

Trump understands that immigration is a real big deal with voters even if it isn't a big deal for you (or republicans like Liz Cheney.) Liz did not lose her job (or have her job's earning power cannibalized) by migrant labor.

Okay.

I don't have a problem with semi-automatic rifles. I feel much more comfortable with a few of my neighbors owning the AR-15. I feel "protected." Some of them are asshats, but none are criminals.

I don't own a semi-automatic. But it wouldn't bother me if you did own one DS. I trust you.

I don't have a problem with semi-automatic rifles used for normal purposes, but AK's and AR's? That's a different ball game.

I'm not sure how you define normal purposes for a semi-automatic rifle that isn't an AR.

You mean a Mini-14 has a different purpose than an AR?

I believe AKs are criminalized (machine guns.) The AK-47 is as much a machine gun as the M-16, criminal for civilian ownership. AK and M16 are military weapons.

AR-15 is semi-automatic. You must pull a trigger for each round. AR is not military grade.
