I hired a contractor to do some electrical work on the main line going into my house.

He was supposed to come out today at 8am. I call him at 10am and ask him whats up. He tells me sorry for not letting me know but he was trying to get romantic with his wife yesterday

I didn't even know what to say, we just had like 10 seconds of empty silence on the phone and then he says "I can come out Wednesday"

I kind of have the opposite situation. Back in August I entertained estimates on deck work at the mountain house. Didn't pick the cheapest, in fact, he was one of the more expensive ones but seemed organized, had good reviews on Angies List and was very professional. As soon as I signed the go ahead, he started the next day without telling me when he would be starting. I arrive the next weekend and the deck is in process, no big deal, I text him to ask how things are going and when will he be done, and no answer from him.

Next weekend went up to the house and no progress has been made. Texted again. Received a text from his wife and business partner saying that rain has been delaying projects and he'll get to it shortly. I concur weather has been shitty during August. Another three weeks pass and still nothing. not concerned because I've paid this guy -0- money so far. Never billed me, never mentioned by him. Late September I go up for the weekend and, all of a sudden it looks like he's finished, but not sure because they guy never tells me anything. So, long story short, I think my deck is complete and have not paid a dime, yet. On one hand, I'm thinking don't bring it up to him because I have this unreasonable thought that maybe I slipped through the cracks. On the other, I'm worried there's something going on he's not telling me and I better reach out and find out.

to add to my story, the guy shows up and leaves one of those rolling scissor lifts at my house. So of course that evening I get on it and drive it around the yard.

But he also calls me and says he isn't going to do what we agreed on, what I've paid him half for already because it would look bad. He did offer to give me my money back but I'm on a schedule here and need to get this done as I have trusses and lumber being delivered next week, so we compromised on a different solution, said he would do it for the money I paid him. He shows up the next day, takes the scissor jack thing and leaves.

Then he text me the next day and says his daughter is in the hospital so I don't know if this guy will ever show up to do the work of if he just like driving out to my house every other day to sit in my driveway for an hour.

at any rate, I just had a major project end at work so I'm taking a long weekend and going up into the mountains. Usually I go to Lake Michigan this time of the year but Covid-19 has ruined that so we are going someplace new - Maryland of all places.
