Re: Tennessee Volunteers
I tried to tell you. No surprise. The NCAA saves its harshest punishments for really awful offenders.

Re: Tennessee Volunteers
You have no idea what you're talking about. The committee took Tennessee's major violation and sanction for cheating, inlcuding a 'failure to monitor' designation, and placed most of the snactions on the coaches, which is something they do not usually do.
Should they have? Sure. Is that standard for them? No. Will it some stadard or precedence for other schools? We can hope.

Re: Tennessee Volunteers
The NCAA Infractions spokesman gushed about how well Tennessee handled the investigation from our end; that UT's level of cooperation precluded the committee from handing down any sanctions . Doubtful that part will be featured on ESPN though.

Re: Tennessee Volunteers
The major infractions and 'failure to monitor' stuff will be, though.
And the NCAA gushed about Bama, too. The COI we had was more bad cop than good cop. It's just a crap shoop which committee you'll get and it shouldn't be that way.

I see a feature comming about how yet another promising recruit has been kicked from the team giving new, potential recruits another reason to be concerned about us.bluetick wrote:Doubtful that part will be featured on ESPN though.

Re: Tennessee Volunteers
The thing with JJ was not a matter of "if" but "when" - some people just can't be helped. The official unofficial reason he got axed was the drug test, but it was widely known that he also couldn't find his way to his one summer session class.
Brandon Jeffries (of Hostess-gate fame, along with Corey Miller) walked out at North Carolina last week -couple that with Jackson's departure, and then tally all of Kiffin's signees who have come and gone ...it's arguable that Lane's short-lived regime didn't put a premium on character in the recruiting process.

I think the fact Kiffin associates himself with Ed ed orgeron underscores his character, or lack thereof...

Re: Tennessee Volunteers
Kiffin became the Volnation's public enemy #1 around 6ish the evening of Jan. 12th, 2010.
Few knew at the time what a blessing his departure would become.

Actually, they said of Alabama,AlabamAlum wrote:And the NCAA gushed about Bama, too.
I wouldn't exactly call that "gushing.""They were absolutely staring down the barrel of a gun," said Thomas Yeager, chairman of the infractions committee.
"These violations are some of the worst, most serious that have ever occurred," he said.

Re: Tennessee Volunteers
You really are a fucking moron, prof. You trot that out, on cue, hoping that you and that one line by the over-zealous NCAA COI ex-frontman finds purchase.
We were praised in the basketball case, the Means case and the textbook case for a proactive and upfront compliance department. Afterwards, we had a knife squarely planted in our back.
Hopefully, the NCAA has turned the corner. Their handling of the LSU and Tennessee cases suggests that they have, not to mention the fact that they allowed the Cecil Newton loophole to stand (when in years past, they never felt strongly enough bound by their bylaws to even consider a loophole).
