Re: Florida State Seminoles
Washington state will require people to wear facial coverings in public settings, under a statewide public health order announced Tuesday by Gov. Jay Inslee in response to ongoing COVID-related health concerns.
The order, issued by Secretary of Health John Wiesman, takes effect Friday. The order requires face coverings when people are indoor in a public area, and outdoors in a public area when six feet of physical distancing can’t be maintained.
Washington joins several other states that already have statewide mask orders in place, including California, which issued its order last week.
“Even though we have been resourceful and committed, as we have reopened our economy … we are now experiencing high activity of the virus,” Inslee said.
Inslee again said Washingtonians need to practice physical distancing, wash their hands, get tested for any COVID-like symptoms and to stay home if sick.

Here is another sanity check
Lincoln County, Oregon, has exempted non-white people from a new order requiring that face coverings be worn in public — to prevent racial profiling.
Health officials announced last week residents must wear face coverings in public settings where they may come within six feet of another individual who is not from the same household.
But people of color do not have to follow the new rule if they have “heightened concerns about racial profiling and harassment” over wearing the masks, officials said.
“No person shall intimidate or harass people who do not comply,” health officials said.
With mask requirements becoming more common, activists have raised concerns that the directives could put non-white people in danger.
“For many black people, deciding whether or not to wear a bandanna in public to protect themselves and others from contracting coronavirus is a lose-lose situation that can result in life-threatening consequences either way,” ReNika Moore, director of the ACLU’s Racial Justice Program, told CNN.
Trevon Logan, who is black, said orders to wear face coverings are “basically telling people to look dangerous given racial stereotypes that are out there.”
“This is in the larger context of black men fitting the description of a suspect who has a hood on, who has a face covering on,” Logan, an economics professor at Ohio State University, told the outlet.
“It looks like almost every criminal sketch of any garden-variety black suspect.”

Do you really equate that to the scenario I described?

Re: Florida State Seminoles
It was a garage door pull, in which the retied knot apparently looked similar to the hangman’s knot (my guess is that it looked different from others because it had been retied in a different way, or hadn’t been used enough for the knot loops to constrict down). My guess is that it isn’t actually a hangman’s knot at all, because then the hand pull would constrict under load and tighten up, not stay as a loop through use for a year.

Re: Florida State Seminoles
It was a "noose" only in either 1984 style doublespeak, or in an "Im dumb enough that i think every loop that looks like a noose is a noose" kind of way. A noose is used to hang people or as a snare to trap animals, the point is that the big loop tightens down the more it is pulled. I guess maybe it could be a noose if the intention was to tighten around somebody's hand when they grabbed the garage door as a joke. But obviously it lasted 9 months of use as the pull for the garage door, so I highly doubt it was actually a noose.
The most likely explanation is that someone tied a fixed loop (such as a surgeon's loop), which also involves wrapping multiple loops around the line above the big loop, in a fashion that was different from the rest of the garages, and someone that didnt know the difference thought it looked like a noose and reported it.

Re: Florida State Seminoles
if Bubba Wallace says its a noose, its a noose
I mean, he never actually saw it before he went on The View and had an interview with Don Lemon
but we're gonna go with what a guy named Bubba from Nascar says is gospel.

I feel bad for Bubba, he's having to react to bullshit, essentially be the face of the sport through this, make sure that any potential sponsors are pleased with whatever he does, and first he's told and then the entire world is told that a hate crime has been committed against him, and now its all been just a big misunderstanding, for which all of the blame is being heaped on him too when he likely had nothing to do with it.

Re: Florida State Seminoles
I'm sure this will be as fruitless as any other attempt to engage you, but my guess is that there are probably hundreds of knots in NASCAR garage for many purposes that are nooses. Probably none which are used as garage door pulls, although it certainly is possible that some others have loops tied on which other people would mistake for a noose. The knot I use to tie on my fishing hooks and lures can both be called a noose and is in fact virtually identical in tying method to the hangman's knot. If someone in a race shop wants to tie something strongly to the end of a line for any reason its probably what they use.

I would feel sorry for him had he just dealt with it within NASCAR and waited to get a complete picture of what happened, but he turned it into a cause before the facts were out there. Not surprising related to his BLM association, but unfortunate
from what I understand he is a so-so driver who is driving for Petty Motorsports that is constantly having money issues.
so his motivation to get some spotlight overrode his big picture of what is best route for the sport that he has been making a living from
There is money in racism today....well except for Nascar. I suspect they'll find out there are empty stands in jumping the gun to paint your sport as racist, but Wallace? he'll get his sponsors.

I don't think it was a noose and even if it was it had been there for over a year and I would guess many of the other stalls have similar "nooses" in them as door openers. This is a nothing burger...

Say that one of the gun-wielding guys at that Michigan protest had shot and killed somebody, would everybody there with a gun be guilty of murder?

Re: Florida State Seminoles
guilty of murder ? no
but lets say they have a second protest where everyone is gun wielding and another person gets shot.
Now I'm holding them responsible for supporting a situation that led to the death of someone because there is past precedent that their actions would result in this.
and for whats its worth, I've said multiple times on here that I have no desire to be around any place where people feel they need to display guns. My examples were bars, stores and movie theaters but I'd feel the same about protesting a stay at home order. It was an over the top reaction. The law says they have a right to do it, but I wouldn't.
The only time I'd support it is a protest specifically in support of 2A, where you'd be expected to show guns.
but it should be noted we have a specific example where gun owners protested , carrying guns in mass numbers and *nothing* happened

I am blaming him trying to leverage a non item into a cause and making the TV circuit rounds to capitalize on it.

Re: Florida State Seminoles
I dont blame him, its actually the way the sport works. The entire sport is designed around leveraging any kind of PR that you can as a race team and getting the driver and sponsor in front of as many eyeballs as possible. If he had gotten into a controversial fight on pit road, the PR machine would also ramp up to get him in front of the media also.
