I said we wouldn't get any sanctions. Too bad the hammer had to drop on Pearl...if he'd come clean on the picture before the investigator left his driveway, he'd be over at Pratt getting ready for fall practice.

Or if our over-paid legal counsel had given him the heads-up that the NCAA already knew the origin of the pic. Dumbasses.

What happened to Pearl is Pearl's fault and he got what he deserved. He broke the rules, then lied about it. He was in trouble at his previous job for almost the exact same stuff.

I don't blame our attorney for not giving Pearl a heads up if indeed he had prior knowledge of the pic. If Pearl is a liar, we needed to know about that. The attorney would've given Pearl a head's up that would've gotten him off the hook for that incident. However, during the next incident the attorney may not have known and we would've been body slammed.

Pearl got what he deserved. Let's move on.

Or as Pat Summitt would say, let's just forget about it...

He was never in trouble at UW/M. A recruit came to his daughter's graduation party...give me a break.

Anyway, in the neverending rollercoaster ride that is UT athletics:

Jantzen Jackson is kicked off the team.

I was under the impression Pearl was in basically the same trouble and had suffered some penalties, or caused the school to suffer some penalties, from the NCAA. Furthermore, I do recall he was asked about it and was later shown to have lied about it. I suppose if I had the time and cared I woudl try to look it up. I'm not all that interested.

I'm quite serious about the attorney.

A big "WTF" regarding Jantzen Jackson.

What exactly was his problem?! Reading between the lines I feel there was some sort of a substance or alcohol abuse problem.

Having said that, I can't say I'm shocked. It was clear he was walking a line and it was a matter of time before he was gone. Shame that someone with obvious talent can't keep his act straight and this happens.

He got hurt during his freshman year didn't he?

I heard it was vicodin. Likely that he failed another drug test.

Yeah, he did get hurt at some point.

If that was the problem, someone close to that situation (particularly a parent) screwed up. I'm not an expert on addictions or substance abuse. However, it sure seems to me a "habit" that was recently aquired could be easy to break. Lock the dumbass up for 6 months, don't let him go anywhere, and make sure you monitor everything (food, movies, chicks...) to make sure nothing gets in there. Break that damn habit. He had a bright future in the NFL if he wanted it. Ruined. It's all pissed away now.

Of course he could pull an Ontario Smith, go to Oregon or some other school, and talk about how he left UT for a better opportunity or whatever...

Sorry to hear about Summit. She is a giant in her profession. She's frighteningly young for that diagnosis.

Congrats on dodging the NCAA. Your "falling on your thumb tack" ploy worked. You even avoided the sanction de jure, i.e. vacating some wins from the Majors era, except those over Alabama and Vanderbilt.

It's official.

No Further Sanctions for UT
"We were really impressed by the way the institution responded in this case," Banowsky said. "It's not a case involving lack of institutional control ... failure to monitor. On the contrary, the university did a commendable job of addressing the issues once it discovered them and self-imposed a substantial number of penalties. The Committee (on Infractions) simply adopted the penalties that the institution had self-imposed and basically concluded that the bulk of the additional and more serious penalties should be directed to the coaches."
