Went to our fave Mexican joint last night to get take-out...wtf, no more curbside - I had to go in. The place was packed, people five deep waiting for tables, no distancing, no masks. I walked out with our order and I probably walked out with covid-19*.

NEW YORK CITY — The USS Comfort has left New York City. The comfort had been docked in Manhattan since the end of March to help support local hospitals as they struggled to contain the influx of patients from the coronavirus outbreak.

The USS Comfort now heads to its home port in Norfolk, Virginia where it will stock up on supplies and prepare for any potential future deployments.

The USS Comfort had been docked at Pier 90 since March 30. The Navy says that during its time in NYC the hospital ship treated 182 coronavirus patients, all of whom were discharged over the past week. The ship is capable of housing up to 1,000 patients.

That's literally the truth altho on the other hand we have a system that gives folks plausible reason to pretend our empire wasn't built on cheap (not to mention free) labor. We should be going around thanking illegals and poor folks like we do the military but that's not in the cards.

why would wages ever go up if we have porous borders that allow cheap labor to flood in continuously?

The American consumer is at fault too, they won't be willing to pay $4 a pound for tomatoes or $100 for lawn care, but it has to begin with controlling the amount of labor in the job market to drive wages to a living standard.
