We have been working on the Hark The Sound (Alma Mater), Carolina Victory, Tag (I’m a Tar Heel Born), You’ll Never Walk Alone, Hail To The Redskins, and Dirty Water.

Today, I’m going to start teaching her all of the amazing things about Eastern NC barbecue (and how God ordained vinegar-based-sauce on whole hog barbecue), FDR, JFK, Terry Sanford, Jim Hunt, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.

Sadly, I’ll also need to teach her about the evil that is Lexington style barbecue, the GOP, Dook, NC State, Clemson, Everton, Manchester United, the Dallas Cowboys, Lakers and New York Yankees.

I stood up during the c section to see the baby when the nurses and the neonatal doc were checking her. I tried to avoid looking down but I got a glimpse of all of the organs and entrails sitting out there. The doctor (who we know personally) looked at me and said “sit down. You’re too damn big for us to be picking up if you pass out.”

I just wish my dad could be here, but c’est la vie.

I just wish we could have avoided bringing the baby into the world at such an awful time, but my family members born during the height of the Spanish Flu survived. So, there’s that...
