Gun sales surge as coronavirus pandemic spreads

Ammunition website Ammo.com said it has recorded an unprecedented surge in bullet sales over the last three weeks. Administrators for the site, which ships ammunition to all but four states across the nation, released sales figures late Monday night showing a 77% increase in website visits between February 23 and March 15. Those visits led to a 222% increase in transactions over the same period when compared to the first three weeks in February.

Republican Senators Dumped Stocks Ahead of Market Plunge: Reports

Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C., and Sen. Kelly Loeffler, R-Ga., dumped stock holdings worth millions ahead of the market plunge that began in February after they received briefings on the coronavirus, according to published reports Thursday. Burr, the chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, sold the stocks on Feb. 13, ProPublica reported, citing disclosure filings. Loeffler, who is married to New York Stock Exchange Chairman Jeffrey Sprecher, began dumping shares Jan. 24, after a private briefing for senators from administration officials, including the CDC director and Anthony Fauci, the head of the National Institutes of Health, the Daily Beast reported.

I don't see how the SEC and DOJ doesn't get involved in this. A 2012 law called the STOCK Act states: “no executive or legislative branch employee may use nonpublic information derived from [or acquired through] their position as an executive or legislative branch employee as a means for making a private profit.” Whoever else that dumped stocks - gop or dem - should be held to account.

UPDATE - just heard that Diane Feinstein and Jmes Inhofe are also implicated.

I doubt anything happens to any of them, as far as insider trading goes. Any kind of general "its gonna be bad" type basis for selling is #1) easily argued to be just a pessimistic opinion and #2) might not be able to be based on any identified and specific fact(s) known by one of them that was not available to the public. Someone would kind of have to prove what they knew that made them sell and it (probably?) is going to have to be something more than "this new disease might be bad news." This senate briefing happened on January 24? This Wuhan Coronavirus was already known and in full epidemic outbreak in China at that time. I was aware of it and concerned about it on my vacation to Orlando theme parks January 12-18. Texags has a thread on this that was started on January 20, and by January 24 it had over 750 posts on that thread from tweets from "experts" showing millions were gonna die, CDC tweets, random YouTube doomsayer clickbait, chinese youtube videos, claims that China was burning bodies in the streets, etc etc etc by then.

Loeffler's husband is the chairman of the NYSE. I'd kinda be surprised if she or her husband is even allowed to make decisions on any kind of trades regardless of information. She or her husband might get in hot water just for that. If it was a trustee doing something on their behalf, thats a whole nother level whered youd have to prove that information flowed to that trustee before the trades.

LOL Kudlow was violently opposed to the GM bailout - he always looked like he wanted to throttle somebody over it back in the day. Now look at what all he's considering..makes that '09 deal look like somebodies' car loan on a Chevy Cruz.
