PS,
If these measures are not undertaken, we will have extreme measures implemented. The ultra-right is unwilling to understand that though...
Disagree there. Right wing gun owners are EXTREMELY aware of those “extreme measures” you are referring to. Their reaction to the likelihood of those “extreme measures” is to join the NRA, and buy more guns and ammunition. Under the Obama administration, every time he talked about “common sense gun safety legislation” NRA memberships and gun sales went through the roof.

We had a Unitarian church in Knoxville get shot up by a nutjob 10 yrs ago. http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/ny- ... story.html

Since then our Methodist church has taken on partnerships with inner-city minority youth programs and now we are hosting immigrants (legal ones, if it matters). We are big into locked doors and camera security. A retired LEO sits in the back of the sanctuary with a concealed 9mm (when he's on vacation I've taken that spot with a .38). We pretty much operate under the premise of "not if, but when".

The church we attend has similar security measures, although on a larger scale.

Good to see you.

I was going to see Bama at SC this year, but my MIL screwed that up by scheduling her wedding for that day. I was looking to a fun weekend in Cola with Hootie and the Blowfish, bar hopping in the Vista and Five Points, tailgating and watching the Bama juggernaut start the final descent of the Coach Boom era. Alas, my MIL decided differently. At least she is marrying a stand-up guy.

I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.

dorm, I don't want her in an apartment, she is in a 4 bedroom/2bath suite with a common living area and a "kitchenette"

Point conceded. But with a confined area with a few hundred people...I'd almost feel better packing a derringer. Plus I've got cataract surgeries coming up.

Yes, we could undo patient privacy laws to mandate that a psychiatric physician reports crazies to keep them from having guns. The problem is, if I am a crazy with ideations of shooting up some people, I will surely avoid getting treatment now if I know I will be reported and have my guns taken and end up on some list. So the real crazies who can be helped are now much less likely to seek treatment. What you end up with is people seeking therapy for something mild (seasonal depression, eg), having their guns taken due to an overzealous MD worried about his liability if the patient snaps.

Cataract surgery? And you were the one tabbed to stand guard with a pistol? Heh. Love it.

you hear about these red flag laws where a family member or someone else may be able to turn someone in who they believe is a threat to society and without due process this person would have their weapon confiscated, and then it would be up to them in some form to prove otherwise.

I think we are alot closer to this than anyone realizes because of what AA just said about HIPPA and privacy.

I feel like both sides basically argue and talk over each other on this issue in the media and in government almost solely from the viewpoint of the middle and upper class.

The #TeamRed side is the voice of all the suburban hobbyist/recreational with a dash of home protection thrown in.
The #TeamBlue side is the middle to upper class urban population who feel safe and therefore think nobody needs guns.

In my experience, this is kinda bullshit. Both gun violence and gun ownership are IMO largely huge issues that deal with the lower classes. Rural, suburban, and urban poor and small business owners that cater to these areas that feel they need weapons for protection, vs either a criminal element, and gangs from these areas, or the fact that they dont live in urban areas where help is a phone call away and they have to be reliant on their own protection.
Sure, I could have stayed in the past. I could have even been king. But in my own way, I am king.

Having an abundance of gun-owning relatives and neighbors in a rural area, I can tell you that rural gun owners mainly just like to use their guns to hunt. That's basically it. But they do like their hunting A LOT. It is a primordial bonding event, especially between fathers and sons, that has been going on for 200+ years.

The areas where they live are ridiculously safe, and few even lock their doors at night, so personal defense against criminals is a very minor consideration. If you mention using their guns for personal protection, their first thought is against the federal government, not crooks.

As an aside, what kind of person schedules a wedding on a Saturday during football season? And what kind of clergy agrees to officiate? sheesh...

sure enough, I just read Dan Crenshaw pushing for Red Flag laws.

If he is pushing for it, then any politicians will push for it
