Re: Ostensibly Hoops
in some ways its hard for me to get worked up over a multizillionaire winning the masters
for whtever reason the 30000 people around that green chanting tiger tiger ----as loud as any arena you're ever gonna find--then him hugging his kid then hearing the stories that he was essentially paralyzed and wondering if he wou;ld ever be able to play with his kids again let alone golf let alone contending golf and now best in the world again
I did get a chill watching that whole sscene though--good stuff

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
If he can win another major this year, it would be good for golf.
I"m sure ratings for the Masters were thru the roof.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
It's as interesting as it is to see any superstar with a decent story win in sports, but some of it is way over the top. Like Nantz saying I wasnt human if I didnt get a tear in my eye to watch Tiger hug his fucking kid? Give me a fucking break.
Sure, I could have stayed in the past. I could have even been king. But in my own way, I am king.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
I don't follow much golf but some of the young players over the last few years have made it interesting again. I would rather see guys like Spieth and Koepka keep winning than see somebody you've never heard of win a major. That's the worst thing about golf, nobodies shining for a week and never to be heard of again. When Tiger came along, that's how it was in the PGA. He made it exciting again. I don't know if he's capable of winning consistently again but Augusta National was made for him. If he wins another major this year, that will be an even bigger accomplishment, imo

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
Here's the the thing about Tiger. Yesterday ws the sports story of the year to date, no doubt. But for the past however many years I've been a sports writer, 15 or so, every goddamn week he's in a tournament, AP has done a story on him. Every fucking time. Then yesterday it was a mad rush in the media to see who could jack off first and best over him

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
yea I get it
but the guy introduced golf to a generation of young people who are in their 30s/40 now who probably wouldn't have picked up a club. He put Nike on the map in golf and they have shitty golf products - and then his life fell apart which is the comeback story that sells.
you saw what happened yesterday - they all knew if Tiger won a major it would be a huge story which is the build up on it.
At this point, even with his game showing some signs of life, I don't think anyone was taking Tiger against the field, even if the sports books were giving him 12:1
Keopka is a good player. He seems pretty likeable to. That Italian guy looked like he was about to cry after giving up the lead to Tiger. He was down the rest of the day.

It also helps that Tiger is just badass cool. When he’s on and strolling down the fairway in his black and red like take that whitey I own this place again.

concur with bthat--I think that chick as watching his kids at one point then he started banging her.
tiger at 8-1 at beth page--I'd take the field at 1-8 --tigers game will always be perfect for the masters--pebble beach too--but british open style golf and this pga I think he doesn't even get to top 10

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
I am sitting in on some bullshit call about how to support interns at work
and the people running it are asking questions like
what qualities do you see in yourself as a manager, what is important to Gen Z in a manager
so I just started typing in boy scout stuff.
Trustworthy, Loyal , Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind...
and the HR person is like "right! excellent!
and some guy on the call figured out what I was doing and was cracking up
