I guess the real question here is why would you buy it in the first place, esp. knowing the ultimate consequences? But I guess you could say the same thing about heroin or crack...

Butter beans and lima beans are the same thing right?
Sure, I could have stayed in the past. I could have even been king. But in my own way, I am king.

Or they could just put a shiny foil label on it that would reflect your face when you look at it. Hey Clowny!

It just goes to show how cheap they are that they put a nondescript kangaroo on the label. Not even an attractive kangaroo or a zany kangaroo or a shamed kangaroo, but a nondescript kangaroo...

This just goes to show how far this place has fallen, it's the second week of the tourny and UNC and UK are still in it and we're talking about kangaroo clown peanut butter...

I'm mostly talking about growing up with depression era parents
There wasn't food bad enough they wouldn't buy if it was cheaper than brand names.

We never had coke or pepsi, or even RC. It was Faygo colas at our house.

I do have some fond memories of grandmother. We had apple trees around the place and she'd get the apples in the fall, cut them up in quarters and leave them to dry in the sun on plywood on saw horses. Once they were sufficiently covered in flies then it was time to bring them in and make apple pies. She made a bunch of them over the years - similar in size to the kind you would buy from hostess and give them out to everybody. Our country doctor was a big fan of them.

I also remember she loved making popcorn balls. I don't think anyone liked them. I can remember being at her house for Halloween one year and giving them out, kids would be like "whats this crap?" when she'd dump a softball size popcorn ball into their bag

So I do have fond memories, even if all her food was mostly horrible.

I will say this - she made pimento cheese out of those government cheese blocks that came in the shape of velveeta. Now I have to say I liked that. I put on probably 10 pounds one summer hanging out over there back in the late 70's. I still love pimento cheese
I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.

DS's rhapsodic entry about his grandmother's cooking is fiction if he's truly from Eastern NC. I remember my Granny's hard little farmhouse kitchen but it was a place pf strange country meats and stewed vegetables. The meals I remember most were pan fried red weiners with pork and beans. She did keep jars of cookies, candied orange slices and lemon drops on her counter though

Why fiction? My grandmother was a good cook. Granted, it wasn't anything you'd get in a 3 star Michelin restaurant, but it was good, simple country fare. I especially liked her chicken schtew...

I remember they gave that out for a long time. I don't remember the details, could anyone just go get it?

"Pimiento cheese is vile"

Vile? You can't even taste the pimentto, it's basically just shredded cheese with some mayo. How can you not like that?

spam is where my family would draw the line. I suspect because of my old mans turn in WWII. And this is a family that would buy loaves of bread that the bread store and freeze it to save .25 a loaf on buying fresh bread

"I remember that gave that out for a long time. I don't remember the details, could anyone just go get it?"

The old joke was two guys broke in line and grabbed the free government cheese, the people they broke in front of gave chase, they managed to evade their pursuers, pulled out the cheese and started eating it, one guy says "this is good nacho cheese", the other guy says "how do you know it's nacho cheese", the first guy says "didn't you hear those guys who were chasing us screaming "Bring that back, that's nacho cheese!!" I guess you had to throw in somewhere that it was two black people they broke in front of...
