Yeah, Nina is great. She wasn't as popular commmercially as some of the other black female singers of the 50's and 60's (Sarah Vaughan, Billie, Etta, Arethra, etc) because she was a bit of an activist in what she said and what she sung (Mississippi Goddam, for example). Mainstream whites of the time kinda stayed away.

Everyone should have, at a minimum, Nina's "Compact Jazz" CD in their collection. Strangefruit, Girl from Joes, Feeling Good...all great tunes.
