ODU 49, VT 35.
Three weeks after shutting down Florida State in Tallahassee, Virginia Tech got shredded for 49 points by an ODU offense playing its backup QB. This was a disaster for VT-- not only was the defense humiliated by a team that lost 52-10 to Liberty, but the Hokies lost starting QB Josh Jackson to an ankle injury in the second half. The VT coaching staff said repeatedly that practices had been bad since the ECU game was cancelled, but for the second time in three games, VT has come up with a performance nobody saw coming. ODU deserved the win, and VT certainly didn't. Let it never be said that following VT football is boring.

I'm sure VT will assrape UNC on 10/13, but if that helps with the firing of Fedora, I am able to withstand this momentary setback.

That would give Larry more time to spend on his CTE research....

VT 31, Duke 14
VT lost to 0-3 ODU, lost their starting QB indefinitely to a broken fibula, and lost their best pass rusher to a persistent attitude problem. The Hokies were left to start a kid who lost the starting job at Kansas. Duke was 4-0, ranked, and was getting their starting QB, Daniel Jones, back from a broken clavicle. So, of course, VT allowed half the yards and 35 fewer points than last week, got 332 passing yards from Ryan Willis, and won in Durham fairly comfortably. Meanwhile, ODU is now 1-4, as the Monarchs lost 37-35 at East Carolina.

Notre Dame 45, VT 23 VT 22, UNC 19
The Notre Dame game was kind of this VT season in microcosm-- VT managed to stay with one of the nation's best teams for a half, but then spent the second half making the kind of mistakes a better team doesn't let slide. It was sort of similar to VT's season opening loss in 2015 to Ohio State, though I think that Ohio State team was better than this year's Notre Dame team is.
As for VT-UNC, this game was a dog's breakfast. VT should be embarrassed that they needed a last-minute drive to beat this North Carolina team, and North Carolina should be embarrassed...because they're North Carolina. I sincerely hope the rest of the ACC gives the Tar Heels the sorts of beatings they richly deserve. This schizophrenic VT team is lucky to beat anybody right now.
Meanwhile, ODU is 1-6, after getting blown out today by Marshall.

It’s ok. VT is a shit ass safety school that leans on a trophy-less program for relevance.
Your football program should be embarrassed that they should have lost to such a horrible side.

Also, I’m glad this cocksucker Fedora didn’t get a win that could help save his ass.

GT 49, VT 28.
It's official-- Paul Johnson owns Justin Fuente. This was a thorough ass-kicking-- the Yellow Jackets simplifed things with a new QB and bet that VT's defense was too inexperienced and undisciplined to stop them, and they were right. I always admire seeing a triple-option attack run well, but this mauling at the hands of the Yellow Jackets puts VT's bowl streak very much in doubt. With the cancellation of the ECU game(and who knows what would have happened there), this team has to win two against BC, Pitt, Miami and Virginia to go 6-5. Even with three of the four at home, that looks like a very tall order for this bunch.

BC 31, VT 21 Pitt 52, VT 22
VT was as competitive as they could be for as long as they could be against a better Boston College team, which meant they were in that game in the first half before BC took control in the third quarter. All things considered, that wasn't such a disappointing performance for this struggling VT team.
Pittsburgh, however, was another matter. The Panthers broke the rushing record against a Bud Foster defense that Georgia Tech had set three weeks ago with 492 yards, and they did it with just 36 rushing attempts. Pitt's Darren Hall averaged 27 yards a carry. VT's offense played well in the second half, seemingly determined to protect the defense, and the defense could still muster no resistance whatsoever. VT has to win the last two to save the bowl streak, starting with what looks like the least relevant VT-Miami game in recent memory, and I'm not sure Lane Stadium will be half-full for the final two games. This team looks done.

Miami 38, VT 14
This went pretty much as expected.

VT 34, UVa 31 (OT)
This didn't go as expected. Then, it did. And then, at last, it didn't. This was nuts-- it was probably the best game to watch that VT and UVa have played in 20 years, and it was one that Virginia almost certainly should have won. The Cavaliers were by far the better team in the second half, and if their offense had shown up a bit earlier, this wouldn't have been close. It was a mistake-filled, beautiful mess of a game, and in overtime, one mistake is the ballgame. Somehow, UVa made the last mistake.

Shit, I meant to post that on the UVa thread. Not that rickert ever posts there, he's too busy airing his homo fantasies about Luke Maye on the UNC board...
