So FBI-DOJ is no longer in the business of running down every unreported, undocumented, uncorroborated, unsubstantiated, self-contradictory accusation of an alleged 35 year old crime alleged by a political activist against a sitting US Federal judge when they were both in high school.

McCabe resigned rather than be demoted. Comey was fired by Trump, in his words, to relieve the pressure of the Russia investigation. Which is why there is a special counsel investigation to begin with. I think you know this, but I'd better not take anything for granted.
