Re: Florida State Seminoles
if gun control advocates want to bring this to a head this is the path to start
-------------
Survivors of the Parkland, Florida school shooting have criticised the powerful gun lobby for the weapons ban, saying schools deserve the same.
The NRA has long been against gun restrictions of any kind, but cites Mr Pence's safety for the weapons ban.
Mr Pence will speak at the NRA's annual meeting in Dallas, Texas on Friday.
President Donald Trump is also expected to make an appearance at the convention, the White House said, which would mark his fourth time speaking to the gun rights group. He is the only president to have done so while in office.
"Due to the attendance of the Vice-President of the United States, the US Secret Service will be responsible for event security at the NRA-ILA Leadership Forum," the NRA said in a blog post about the event.
"As a result, firearms and firearm accessories, knives or weapons of any kind will be prohibited in the forum prior to and during his attendance.
---------------------
while it seems counter intuitive - they need to push for entire crowds to attend political events with open carry - guys walking around with AR-15s on their back, 44 magnums strapped to their legs, and let a politician get up there and give a speech knowing there are thousands of armed citizens in the crowd.
Then you'll start seeing politicians for gun control
of course I don't favor it, but pushing for a gun ban on the masses isn't going to work, its pushing for politicians to live in the same world you do and having them abide by their own rules - unfunded pensions, using Obamacare, and yes, delivering speeches to an armed audience.

Re: Florida State Seminoles
If guns and walls are inherently bad, then why do liberal Democrat politicians like Nancy Pelosi live behind walls in their gated communities and have people with guns around them for personal protection?
Speaking of racism and Georgetown, we are all STILL waiting for you (Cletus) to apologize for having attending that horrid institution which engaged in slave trading back in 1838. By your failure to apologize for your personal culpability in that crime, you are complicit and guilty in that crime. You are practically a slave trader yourself. Worse, you have certainly profited enormously from your Georgetown legal education. How can you sleep at night spending all that blood money? Why haven't you atoned for your sins by making vast contributions to Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton? Only by making massive reparations payments to them can they absolve you from all your Georgetown-related hate crimes.
The whole world is watching!
I was fully aware that Tick was quoting someone else. But when you quote somebody else approvingly, because they are expressing your position, that quote becomes your quote. Jeez, I thought somebody who went Georgetown law would know that.Cletus wrote:Actually, there is - http://goatpen.net/forums/viewtopic.php ... 20#p157631 - but, hilariously, it's you quoting someone else. A fine school, and without the white privilege. Check with Jesse and Al. They may accept your tuition payments to Howard as sufficient contrition and grant you a plenary indulgence.

Whataboutism is a propaganda technique formerly used by the Soviet Union in its dealings with the Western world, and subsequently used as a form of propaganda in post-Soviet Russia. When criticisms were leveled at the Soviet Union, the Soviet response would be "What about..." followed by an event in the Western world.[6][7][8]
The term whataboutery has been used in British English since the period of The Troubles conflict in Northern Ireland.[9][10] Lexicographers date the first appearance of the variant whataboutism to the 1990s,[5][9] while other historians state that during the Cold War Western officials referred to the Soviet propaganda strategy by that term.[6][11] The tactic saw a resurgence in post-Soviet Russia, relating to human rights violations committed by, and criticisms of, the Russian government.[6][12][13] The technique received new attention during Russia's 2014 annexation of Crimea and military intervention in Ukraine.[14][15] Usage of the tactic extended to Russian President Vladimir Putin and his spokesman, Dmitry Peskov.[16][17][18]
The Guardian deemed whataboutism, as used in Russia, "practically a national ideology".[19] Journalist Julia Ioffe wrote that "Anyone who has ever studied the Soviet Union" was aware of the technique, citing the Soviet rejoinder to criticism, And you are lynching Negroes, as a "classic" example of the tactic.[20] Writing for Bloomberg News, Leonid Bershidsky called whataboutism a "Russian tradition",[21] while The New Yorker described the technique as "a strategy of false moral equivalences".[22] Jill Dougherty called whataboutism a "sacred Russian tactic
Figures that mouthbreathers favor the Putin playbook.

Re: Florida State Seminoles
its hard to believe we've come to this in the democratic party
----------------------
Hillary Clinton claimed Wednesday that declaring herself to be a “capitalist” during the 2016 presidential primaries may have hurt her with Democratic voters.
“Probably,” she said when asked by Time Inc. Brands CCO Alan Murray if the declaration hurt her. The pair appeared in conversation as part of the Shared Value Leadership Summit in New York City.
“It’s hard to know but I mean if you’re in the Iowa caucuses and 41 percent of Democrats are socialists or self-described socialists, and I’m asked ‘Are you a capitalist?’ and I say, ‘Yes, but with appropriate regulation and appropriate accountability.’ You know, that probably gets lost in the ‘Oh my gosh, she’s a capitalist!’” Clinton concluded, partly referring to the popularity of her primary rival, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who ran as a self-declared democratic socialist.

Re: Florida State Seminoles
I actually agree with you on this. Case in point: two of my sisters are faithful to the canons of capitalist dogma. They despised Obamacare from the moment it was first discussed. Much more so than me.hedge wrote:I love how people claim to be capitalists until you suggest we should get rid of public schools, medicare, social security, farm subsidies, etc, etc, etc....
Well, one retired and lost her employer health care coverage. What did she do? She went on Obamacare. She married a Canadian, so after the required waiting period, she will go on single-payer Trudeaucare for the rest of her life.
Her son (my nephew) is homeless and indigent. He suddenly needed life-saving ER care. Who paid for it? Medicaid.
My other sister's husband retired and lost his employer health care coverage. He qualified for Medicare, but she isn't old enough to qualify. What did she do? She went on Obamacare. In 2 years, when she turns 65, she will go on Medicare the rest of her life.
And your own Professor Tiger LOVES his farm subsidy.
So yeah, most of us capitalists are hypocrites to some degree. I admit it.

Re: Florida State Seminoles
true, but the concern stems from the desire to grow socialism without any fiscal responsibility
Bernie Sanders was campaigning on a $250 deductible/premium for universal health care, free college tuition and a host of other wealth distribution/quality of life matters - and I'm not sure anyone supporting him ever wondered or cared where the money was going to come from or what it would take to make it a reality.
All they care about is they can't buy a $600K house, can't afford a $90K education or a $600 a month insurance premium. They don't address why they live in a world with those costs (other than blaming capitalism) - and their solution is for government to step in and balance the equation. But government doesn't seek a solution to provide lower cost housing, lower cost education or cheaper insurance. Government yields to capitalism that dictates the recipients will pay or receive what the market will bear.
The reality is regardless, they want the house in the nice neighborhood, close to high value amenities, they want the education at the state school with the new dorms and high profile sports program, they want the health care package that lets them go to the doctor whenever they want for whatever they want - and they want the government to make sure that is available to them regardless of what life choices they have made.
This is a part of the whole coastal mentality - because people in Mississippi aren't dealing with a $600K housing issue, they seek alternatives to $90K college educations. The insurance I can't speak to - its likely they are in the same trap as anyone else since its a federal program now with mandates that effect everyone - which is the crux of this
The socialist leaning people wanted Obamacare - so they go with false promises and bad information - and as a result, while the most impoverished benefited by a government handout, everyone fell under the umbrella of the mandates and as a result, ended up paying health care increases. Its amazing to me that there are still so many enamored with the idea that government solves economic disparity issues instead of creates them - and I assume its because they simply believe that there is an unlimited number of wealthy Americans you can soak in taxes to get them access to the same quality of life stables they believe should be the norm for them.
Its these same people by and large who welcome the idea of immigrants storming our borders and expecting the same quality of life that these Americans are yet to enjoy but hold out hope that the money printing presses are waiting in reserve to take care of them
I'm completely lost on the idea that we want to provide more services to Americans while at the same time wanting our borders to be porous so that we can bring in even more people who have less than the typical impoverished American now.
