"I don't give a flying fuck about their motivation, I just expect them to abide by the rules in place."
I suspect that not taking money from outside sources as consideration for choosing a certain school over another one is one of the rules in place you're referring to, but for some reason you don't seem too concerned with that one. I can't imagine why not...

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
Perhaps. Rules would have to be hashed out and I'm not saying it should necessarily be an endorsement free for all where someone can just pay everybody for minimal exchange. For one thing, the scholarship paradigm would probably have to change. I think you'd have to see a transition to something more akin to "roster spots" rather than scholarships.AlabamAlum wrote:aTm wrote:I don't care if they are pure amateurs. They should be students though, since that's kinda the whole fucking point.
I don't care if, say, Myles Garret or whoever gets paid $100k from Adidas while he's in school, or if he's in Raising Cane's or Wings-N-More commercials on Brazos valley tv, or selling a fuck ton of autographs, but whether he is allowed on the team to play football should be based on him being enrolled and legitimately going to A&M's classes. I'm for strengthening academic ties with athletes, and loosening amateurism by allowing endorsements, but I'm also against outright professional sports (ie they get paid a salary to just show up and play football)
I think boosters would subvert the endorsement deals so badly that you might as well pay them instead of that route.
Alabama booster, Logan Young, owned car dealerships in the Memphis area before his death. I can imagine if he had lived, and endoresement deals like you mention were allowed, he would be contacting bluechip recruits and saying, "Don't go to USC, go to Bama. I'll pay you $500k to do some commercials for my Ford dealership!" Before long, students wouldn't sign with a school until they had their endorsement deals worked out.
Sure, I could have stayed in the past. I could have even been king. But in my own way, I am king.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
I said if that is happening it needs to be a player eligibility issue. And that means loss of revenue and wins for the hosting team. I just don't think its the cardinal sin of college athletics.hedge wrote:"I don't give a flying fuck about their motivation, I just expect them to abide by the rules in place."

I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
The Adidas pecking order by annual value is:
1) Louisville $16M
2) Nebraska $11.6M
3) Texas A&M $7.7M
4) Miami $7.50M
5) Kansas $6.74M ($13.6M deal recently agreed not yet signed)
6) Indiana $6.70M
7) NC State $6.45M
8) Arizona State $4.23M
But its basically just an indication of who has renewed most recently.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
Start arresting players who take money and you'll see college sports change into strictly amateurs immediately.
I keep thinking this thing is part of Trump's ultimate plan (along with trying get black NFL players fired) to weed out Negroes entirely from sports and make America great again by bringing back whitey in sports.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
UL decided not to go with Tom Crean and went with the only assistant not getting fired to be interim
This sucks
I think its a very real possibility UL gets the death penalty.

I wonder if Pitino will find a paying gig in the NBA?

I read he had tried multiple times in the past year and was rebuffed.hedge wrote:I wonder if Pitino will find a paying gig in the NBA?
Who knows what his future is, but I don't see him staying in Kentucky.

Let's see, he's rich and he doesn't have a job that requires him to be in Kentucky. Yeah, I agree, I don't see him staying in Kentucky...

Yeah, most people would move to Kentucky for an 8 figure a year job. I doubt many would stay without it, though...

To be honest, Louisville might as well be Indiana. They hate Lexington just as much as Indiana does.
Sure, I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is, I'm not. I honestly just feel that America is the best country and the other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
The Jurich letter is actually more interesting.
Jurich was fired because he negotiated the Adidas contract without consulting anyone on the board, which would have been ok I guess, until the FBI stepped in.
Just to put perspective at what a dumpster fire UL is right now. The Interim President put the AD and Coach on administrative leave until the BOT, the new BOT, because the governor threw out the old BOT at Louisville last year primarily because they wouldn't fire the president for embezzling money - has now hired an interim coach and will announce tomorrow an interim AD.
The interim coach is a former player whose FIL was the restaurant the night Pitino had sex with a woman in the booth, and whose agent is Andy Miller, who is named in the FBI documents as an accomplice in the Adidas payoff. The Interim Coach Padgett would not directly answer if he was aware of any payoffs to players, only saying that he would not be named as interim coach if he involved in the indictments. Padgett has no experience coaching and will be facing Coach K, Roy Williams and Calipari with a depleted roster this year.
The final nail here is that Tom Crean turned down Louisville.
