Re: Florida Gators
Well, if they counted a defensive TD as 3 points (or something), maybe, but also getting the ball back seems like too much of a reward just for doing your job. I mean, your team is already getting 7 points, but then the ball back on offense too? That seems a bit excessive to me. What is your reasoning for defensive TD's getting the extra reward of getting the ball back on offense after a defensive TD?

Re: Florida Gators
After scoring the TD the defense has to come back out and keep playing which can be taxing as defenses tend to wear down in a game. I agree that giving up 7 and the ball sounds steep on the scored upon team. It will never change - I'm just making a periodic grumble.

Re: Florida Gators
Well, I've never heard anybody talk about this idea before, you make a good point. But I would still say a defensive TD shouldn't count 6 points if they going to get the ball back. That's just too much. It should be more than a safety, but not 6. Maybe 3 or 4. But you're right, it's not going to change. I haven't really thought about this before, but it seems to me that 6 points (virtually guaranteed 7, actually) is more than enough reward without getting the ball back to boot. Plus, there are plenty of occasions when the defense gets a TD early in the other team's offensive series, they might've only been on the field for a couple of downs, the adrenaline rush from scoring a TD and the change in momentum should be more than enough to get them thru the next series...

Re: Florida Gators
I agree that fumbling through the endzone being a turnover without the other team gaining posession is dumb. Unrecovered fumble should go back to the point of the fumble. Luckily Tennessee seems to lose anyway when forcing those...

Hey aTm, I'm in a pick em contest, should I take the Aggies over Arkansas this weekend? How strong a pick should I make it, either way? 1 is weakest confidence, 10 is highest. Thanks..

I think we win easily, so I'd go Arkansas at 10.

Re: Florida Gators
So would you suggest both teams take a 10-minute 'nap time' after a defense scores a touchdown? Or is the offense allowed to go out to recess and play on the swingset while the defense naps? The Gray Ghost wrote:After scoring the TD the defense has to come back out and keep playing which can be taxing as defenses tend to wear down in a game. Re: Florida Gators
Weak humor in what has been a level headed discussion. The alternative is the scored upon team free kicks from the 20, same as it would after a safety. I see the drawbacks but it has some merit.
Here's a few more rules to a change (or rather restore to their previous state)
Offensive pass interference penalty includes loss of down
An incomplete forward pass that does not cross the line of scrimmage is marked down where the ball hits the ground or where the passer threw it (whichever is farther forward)
A forward pass touched by an offensive player cannot be caught by another offensive player unless a defensive player touches the ball in between.
Yeah, I'm not a fan of the changes that were made for easier scoring

I'm not a fan of the 5yd-defensive-holding-penalty. I coulda been on that last play Saturday, though. The Gray Ghost wrote: Yeah, I'm not a fan of the changes that were made for easier scoring

Re: Florida Gators
Your gripe with what constitutes defensive holding - ie. contact after 5 yards, the 1-chuck rule, etc
or with the penalty for defensive holding? -
I think it's a pretty fair balance.

Re: Florida Gators
The Annual 'Will Kentucky Break the Streak' day on the calendar has arrived. They have a good enough team and UF has a flawed enough team to make it happen at home .... nah, they lose again (and if I'm wrong I'm 29-1).

Re: Florida Gators
That was an incredible game. Congratulations.
But after watching the UF-UK game, the UT-UMass score, the Mizzou-Auburn game, and the UGA-Miss. State game, it is abundantly clear that UGA will win the East. Nobody else is even close to them. The Dawgs can go ahead and make reservations in Atlanta for the SECCG.
They may even make Bama break a sweat before being ritualistically sacrificed.

I can't think of any Gator 'win' I've watched that felt so empty. It may be a W in the column, but it was no better than a Pat Dye Tie.
UGa will eviscorate UF at TWLOCP, agreed they might even stay within 10 of Bammer.

Once upon a time the Vandy game was usually a breather, sort of like the 'tucky game. I expect it will be sort of like the 'tucky game this year too.

Another reason to write off this season and find something else to do on Saturdays.
