I meant me and eCat's lifetime, not yours. It's a good thing you're not a Harvard football fan, you could claim all those championships in the 1800's as being in your lifetime...

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
it will be interesting to see if Magic Johnson takes Ball over Fox.
Right now Fox really isn't in the conversation but Fox has outplayed Ball both times in head to head, plus all the baggage of Ball, yet it seems like the kid was born to play for the Lakers.
The challenge is if Johnson makes the wrong choice and dooms the Lakers to mediocrity for another 5 years, then he gets thrown out with Ball

Diallo back to Kentucky. If only ego Cal hadn't pushed out Bam thinking he was going to ink Bamba, UK would easily be hanging another banner. Way to go Cal.

UNC Leaning on Precedent in NCAA Response
UNC’s response highlights a study conducted by Erianne A. Weight of UNC and Matt R. Huml of Texas Tech on the prevalence and content of such academic courses created for student-athletes at all NCAA levels. The researchers surveyed athletics academic advisors in all three NCAA divisions and received 240 responses, of which 33.9 percent of the respondents indicated that student-athletes received academic credit for merely playing a varsity sport.
The study authors offered this opinion of UNC’s case in light of their findings: “This is an institution that offered no credit for athletic participation and no athlete-centric courses (on par with the regional findings in this study), yet it has one of the leading and most robust 4-year leadership academies for athletes in the nation. This four-year program facilitates hundreds of hours of academic leadership training on top of the NCAA training mandates and life-skills seminars. These no-credit educational experiences at some peer institutions would equate to a minimum of 18 credit hours if formalized into curricula.”
UNC also found that potentially 28 institutions at the Division I level “have courses available only to student-athletes who receive academic credit that counts toward their NCAA eligibility requirements for participating in a varsity sport” and found that potentially 44 institutions “have traditional academic courses that appear to be available only to student-athletes and award academic credit.”
The NCAA’s inconsistent handling of similar cases at Auburn, Michigan and UNC, paired with a plethora of course offerings across the country designed specifically for student-athletes, will undoubtedly serve as a primary discussion point in August’s anticipated Committee on Infractions hearing.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
It will be interesting.
Clearly the NCAA thinks UNC cheated and their (UNC) response was anemic resulting in them issuing the 3rd NOA.
UNC decided it was all or nothing after that. They told the NCAA to go to hell.
There are several things working against UNC however.
One is you can't forget you just got put on academic probation by SACs - the toughest first time offense they can enforce, which clearly shows that UNC did not meet the less than rigourous standards of academic integrity
secondly, your own commissioned report which UNC now denounces even though they submitted it as evidence, show multiple instances of the athletics improperly benefitting from such courses.
Finally , Sankey wants to see you guys burn. I'm not sure the best strategy is to point out how others have gotten away with cheating and therefore you should be able to as well.
This will come down to the NCAA being concerned over being sued by a member institution (which UNC voluntarily belongs to) for interpreting its own rules.
It really depends on if the NCAA is more concerned about the fallout from UNC throwing a pussy fit for getting caught
but lets be clear.
UNC is guilty of the largest academic scandal in the history of college sports.
nothing will ever change that.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
Heh, you just admitted that others got away with the exact same kind of cheating, but you need so badly to have something in your arsenal as payback for all those decades when you (and all UK fans) had to swallow every insult thrown your way due to the SI "Shame" cover, that you are determined repeat as a mantra (and hell, maybe you've even convinced yourself it's true) that "UNC is guilty of the largest blahblahblah". I know very well that you won't be deterred from this course, ever, but it is kinda funny to hear you acknowledge that others have gotten away with the same thing (and, if you actually cared to check into it, way worse). I would say "I guess it's not a scandal unless you get caught", but obviously that needs to be modified, b/c others have been caught, but no action was taken. So I guess it's only a scandal if you get convicted. Well, unless you're a UK fan (or any other UNC hater), in which case, it doesn't matter how this thing turns out ultimately, you're going to go with your facts irregardless. As a Trump supporter, at least you've gotten plenty of practice in this convenient method of analyzing any situation (pretty much every word in that sentence could be put in quotation marks)...

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
here's the thing though
there are many who didn't get away with much less. Memphis has to vacate a final four for a player the NCAA cleared just because he wouldn't cooperate with them on reviewing a test score in high school.
If you want to say its not cheating by all means, hang your hat on Rashad McCants making the deans list at UNC. Talk about flawed rationalization.
Its a proud moment for you I'm sure to back that kind of integrity.

Wow, there's no conflict of interest there. Evidently he didn't want to see Auburn burn, maybe b/c he was employed by them when they went thru a similar situation that he now wants to see UNC burn for...

Sankey worked for Auburn?
Auburn has been so squeaky clean that even a Bama grad running the COI gave us a proctoscopic examination and found nothing on Cam. Zero. Zilch. Nada.

there is no comparison since the formation of the NCAA

I guess you don't see any issue with multiple D1 schools giving academic credit simply for participation on the team you've already been given a scholarship to be on...

I simply don't care.
There is only 1 issue I care about in regards to college academics/athletics and that is UNC going down and going down hard.
I don't have a belief that the NCAA will actually do it because UNC has gone beyond the pale of hypocrisy and complete lack of integrity in regards to this. I didn't even think it was humanly possible to be such a complete coward as UNC has in their attempt to avoid being spanked, and it may very well work.
But as I said
none of that changes the current facts. Getting off on a technicality (or threatening to be a the biggest whiney bitches of any program) doesn't change the crime.
it just lowers my opinion of UNC even more.
From claiming helms titles to avoid being passed by Duke to paying millions to avoid being punished for rule breaking they readily admit to doing, UNC is the Eddie Haskill of college basketball.

Well, let's move on from such a shameful topic by citing a story about a program beyond reproach. This would make any fan base proud:
