Given that choice, I'll go with Bachmann and her gay husband. He might even gain her a few votes in the Bay Area.

There is no courage in DC. Shocker I know.

Once again can is kicked down the road making the problem worse yet again when the shit finally hits the fan.

Now DC has no pressure to do what should be done as the minuscule or phantom cuts won't put our house in order.

you know what pressure creates? Diamond. Without that pressure it's just a piece of coal.

All this agreement does is guarantee nothing will be done for years to come.

And yes Rubio is the fucking man.

I think the Tea Party lost EVERYTHING in this Debt Ceiling bill. OTOH, Paul Krugman thinks the President lost everything. And then the Nobel Prize winner for economics gets "owned" by the baseball enthusiast.

Strange how so many different people see everyone else WINNING (except themselves) in this deal. But thankfully, Gabby Giffords was able to vote today.

Just show some fucking courage DC.....

William Wallace: Now tell me, what does that mean to be noble? Your title gives you claim to the throne of our country, but men don't follow titles, they follow courage. Now our people know you. Noble, and common, they respect you. And if you would just lead them to freedom, they'd follow you. And so would I.

The strongest idealogues from both sides are the ones angriest about the deal. No tax hikes, so the ultra-libs are pissed. The Deopartments of Education, Energy, & HUD still exist, so the teabaggers are pissed. So it sounds like a pretty good deal to me (a true indepedent moderate)

I have never claimed to be a moderate, nor do I recall ever characterizing myself as independent (lower-case i). It is a fact that I am a registered Independent.

C'mon, this really isn't that complicated.

The true test of whether one is an independent or not is whether they have voted for different members of a major party for President and Senator, (not the house, because with gerrymandering, there usually doesn't mean a choice).

Voting for the Green party candidate or the Conservative Party candidate all the time doesn't make one independent

A great article as far as it goes. Will takes the same old government institutions to task for inefficiency and waste - the easy pickings - DMVs, airport security, public education.

A funny thing about Will, though - he will never criticize the oldest gubment institution of them all. Any time the subject arcs toward military cuts or streamlining George immediatley goes into his "soldiers shivering in threadbare garments at Valley Forge" mode. Maybe it's because he didn't serve, or that some people see him as an intellectual dandy. Whatever. The closest he ever came to questioning defense spending was a piece he did about NATO and how the U.S. outspends it's allies by 3-to-1 over their combined total. Of course, his gripe was that the other NATO members didn't spend enough.

But yeah, noboby will label you unpatriotic if you ridicule the school calendar as being hackneyed. Just don't question whether we really need to maintain 11 carrier groups in this day and age - the Japanese Imperial Navy could be hiding somewhere out there, after all.

medicare/medicaid/socialsecurity

mf's better streamline change those 3 programs in 2013 --Social security raise the age and decrease eligibility to thoise who have less then x amount of assets/income and thats the easy fix

medicare and medicaid will be toughter.

gonna have to accept the fact some people the government should not pay bills on. if you are over 85 or have stage IV cancer you shoulkd not have your health bill paid by medicare other then comfort care period. no dialysis, no chemotherpy no screening test or diagnostic tests unless it comes our of your pocket

problem solved. if medicare is still bankrup in 10-15 years drop it to 80
