I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.

He was channeling Philip Seymour Hoffman in Boogie Nights...

Re: College Football
great actor, completely unnerving in that role.
Boogie Nights was nothing like I expected when I saw it in the theaters. Its not a bad movie, but I had a similar reaction to it as I did Leaving Las Vegas.

And what was that? Personally I think Boogie Nights is Anderson's best film. I thought Leaving Las Vegas was great, too...

Re: College Football
There were moments of levity in Boogie Nights, although I would never call it a comedy. LLV was just a straight 90 minutes of psychic brutality. Even the lighter moments you knew were just a set up for greater misery to follow, even though he was well prepared to endure anything. There was something weirdly noble in his stoic determination to drink himself to death, but whatever had led him to that pass couldn't have been nice...

Re: College Football
His girlfriend before he became a porn star (she is in the first frame of that preview you posted) is from Greenville and went to Carolina when I was there. She was also in that series The L Word. Nice girl, I tried to hook up with her at the beach one summer, but she was only 15 at the time and resisted my advances...

I think for Leaving Las Vegas, nobody really expected Nicolas Cage to play that kind of role.
I can remember a friend of mine bringing his wife's cousin to the movie thinking it was a comedy (so at least I wasn't alone) and his wife's cousin was an alcoholic.
This is Peggy Sue Got Married, Raising Arizona, Guarding Tess Nick Cage and also that Honeymoon in Vegas movie. Yes he did other stuff but nobody really watched it.

"watch the trailer and tell me if you think its indicative of the movie"
Well, you knew it was about the porn industry in the 1970's, so you knew there were going to be drugs and all the other concomitant soul-withering despair that went along with that whole scene. Still does, I'm sure, in many cases...

this was before the internet. I didn't know that soul withering despair went along with porn. I hadn't even watched Pimps Up, Ho's Down yethedge wrote:"watch the trailer and tell me if you think its indicative of the movie"

"I can remember a friend of mine bringing his wife's cousin to the movie thinking it was a comedy (so at least I wasn't alone) and his wife's cousin was an alcoholic."
Well, that's pretty hilarious at least. Probably not to them at the time, though...
This does beg the question, though: Do you really just go to a movie with absolutely zero idea (except whatever pops into your head for no reason at all, i.e., in this case, "Leaving Las Vegas? Hey, that's got to be a comedy! It's just gotta be! Let's go!") of what it's about? I'm not sure if I've ever done that...

In fairness, though, they don't have "soul withering" as one of the categories at Porn Hub...

like I said - up until that point we just thought Nick Cage was an actor in oddball comedies. Wasn't that Honeymoon in Vegas movie where he joined up with the Flying Elvises to jump out of a plane onto the Vegas Strip?

I see. He was in another movie with Las Vegas in the title that was a comedy, so this one had to be, too...
