I was listening to some of the tea party republicans this morning on NPR and they are saying that the credit rating isn't about the debt ceiling, its about our debt, and any plan that is out there now designed to reach a compromise to raise the debt ceiling will not prevent the credit agencies from dropping our ratings

Sounds like they are all resigned to the idea that our credit rating is going to drop, and that in itself, drops any motivation they have to cave on their demands just to avert a quick measure to raise the debt limit.

Obama has gone into bunker mode as he has no more options on how to put pressure on congress and the Boehner plan is dead man walking.

Looks like any deal that is going to get made will be a democratic plan that RINO's will back in spite of their parties objections.

I'm really at a loss as to why they won't implement a long term plan that has significant cuts designed to appease the credit agency and restore global confidence that we will honor our debts. If it is what needs to be done then its not a compromise on anyone's part or leaving your ideology.

Not true. They do care about the country and its people, but only as a by-product to their personal and party's power.

Tea Party idiots are partially right about the fate of our AAA rating, however they seem to not grasp that you can actually do both (raise teh ceiling and do the necessary things to keep the rating)...and the proposals were there to do both, but the unsophisticated idiots would not compromise on the deal (that was slanted heavily to their wishes).

They were elected to congress by the people with one primary mandate and that was to cut spending and taxes.

Boehners plan cuts $917b over 10 years while raising the debt ceiling by $1T. That isn't going to fly with any Tea Party member and he made a mistake thinking they would rally around him just to spite Obama...the same mistake McCain made on his presidential run

The biggest long term plan discussed was Obama's who was willing to do something with entitlements longterm (a Democratic treasure) but only if the Republicans would come off their treasure of no revenue increases. But Repubs even said eliminating corporate money to Exxon and friends was a tax increase. That's why it looks to independents that Obama was being reasonable while Repubs aren't. To come together, all have to give up your treasured position. I don't know if the rest of the democrats were willing to do that, but Obama was and Republicans never put Dems in a position to have to.
