I'm not complaining, I enjoyed it, but the final couple of episodes had the emotional depth of a daytime soap opera or Lifetime movie. And also
was there a single episode where somebody didn't get poisoned and they sent somebody rushing out for the female doctor and then she immediately diagnosed it correctly and then got them thru it (until poor Henrietta)? Jesus christ, why not just give her a room downstairs somewhere and save a little time (I kinda recall a line or two of something along the lines of "well, you probably aren't going to want to live here," but they never explained why)
Well, at least they look like the ones you see them wearing in paintings. But I feel like they were more sanguine about death in general than the average person in a Nicholas Sparks film adaptation, which is where the last couple of episodes seemed to be heading in that saccharine territory...

No doubt there were poisonings, but you are correct it is condensed and overstated. On the other hand, Louis approving a drainage culvert from one town to the other (and all the other mundane tasks of a leader) isn't very dramatic.

With Henrietta, interestingly, she really thought she had been poisoned. Her autopsy was done with 17 French and 2 English physicians and over 100 in attendance allegedly. The official cause was gastroenteritis, but many in attendance disagreed.

That is an alternative fact. She clearly was poisoned in real life though I suspect it was less dramatic than in the series, with all the blood.

Yeah, Versailles got to be a little much at times. Too many shots of Louis gazing into the distance and pondering who he would fuck next with that little wispy mustache and a smirk. Too many arguments between him and Phillippe over Henrietta. Still, I look forward to season 2 and more titty.

I don't know that she was clearly poisoned. I guess I have some reading to do. I suppose they exhumed the body and tested bone?

A relative of hers (can't remember who) died at the same age with the same thing which lead me to believe more of the natural cause side.

I don't think it was proven one way or the other but the official cause was gastroenteritis, which we both know wasn't the case, AA. You saw all the blood on the show, right?

That was an excellent recommendation, AA. I went thru all 10 episodes in about 4 evenings. Do you have any others?

Well, if there was blood on the show, that settles it!

Heh. Many GI disorders can result in a quick, ugly death. I don't know....lol

Taboo is a weekly series on a network. I don't have the schedule for that nonsense. I require Netflix or some other downloadable format.

I prefer historical dramas with ample tit and ass shots along with blood and gore.

DVR. I never watch shows like that real-time. Fast-forwarding through the commercials is well worth it.

I liked Bloodline on Netflix, it has some issues, though. Ditto Narcos.

On Amazon, I just finished "Sneaky Pete". It was decent the ending of the first season was contrived. Also on Amazon, "Goliath" is worthwhile.

There is tit, blood, and gore and some small semblance of history in "Taboo".

I've got a lot of time on planes this week so I think I'm going to give Bloodline another shot. I like what I've seen so far with Narcos.

Bloodline was just dumb, IMO. Too much emphasis on interpersonal relationships, although I only watched 2 shows. Loved Narcos though. There's another subtitled series on Escobar (El Patron del Mal) that has a bunch of episodes that wasn't bad. Escobar was played as more of a dork than the Brazilian guy did in Narcos, although he was awesome.

We have Amazon access now so I'll look at those 2 suggestions.Don't have a DVR (unless Xbox One will do the trick) so that's not happening.
