Richelieu died when Louis XIV was only a couple years old.

Aldous Huxley wrote an historical study entitled Grey Eminence, about some monk or cleric who was the right hand man of Richelieu and about whom that phrase as it is applied to anyone behind the scenes who exerts great influence was originally applied (b/c of the color of his robe). I have no idea what would've compelled me to read that book at a relatively young age (can't remember when, but it's been many years ago) other than I have enjoyed everything I've ever read by Huxley. The only thing I recall about it is that the guy behind the scenes was actually extremely pious and not at all interesting in the intrigues of the court, very much unlike the cunning and calculating Richelieu, but for whatever reason (I'm sure Huxley delved into his own theories, but I can't recall them) he had a great deal of influence on Richelieu and therefore on that whole era of French and European politics and history...

You did know he's French, correct?

The Grey Eminence was a religious nut who's ideas about destroying the Huguenots and getting rid of the Hapsburgs so that Christendom could crusade against the Turks just happened to align nicely with Richelieu's and the French crown's needs.

I mean, I can handle some French mewling and whining, but in that first episode he comes off as a political scaredy cat clinging to the idea that the court needs to stay at Versailled (and then they have him fucking stare down a pack of wolves? wtf?) Politically and when dealing with intrigue he was clearly no pussy.

He's not in it since XIV is an adult. I haven't seen Cardinal Mazarin either.

I don't think XIV is such a pussy. He gets lots of pussy and apparently his brother Phillippe thinks he has a pussy but XIV seems kind of cool. Esp. when he called out that seedy looking Moncourt dude at the court party.

C'mon, the wolves were a metaphor the treachery of the nobility. His brother, who in real life was at the very least a cross-dresser and probably a fag but also a successful military leader, had his back (although I'll bet the mincing Phillippe would have liked to eaten his backside as well).

It's worth noting, amid the scenes of XIV eating out Henrietta, that he was known to have excruciating halitosis in his older age.

He grew into the role, atm. He became decidedly more effective as time wore on. He actually did deal with issues on how to assert control over nobility and rebellion.

I think I want to do it to Jennifer Lawrence.

I am not attracted to her in a conventional way...but I think I wanna do it to her.

That's all.

Certain ones can pluck certain strings. Never understood the how or the why. Sometimes it's obvious because they're hot and they might have a certain pout, curve of the neck or tit or sound to their voice. Other times, it makes no sense that just seeing a certain chick, hot or not, makes you want to fuck her right then and there, regardless of when or where it is.

I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.

Alright, on Stu's breathless recommendation, I just watched 10 straight hours of Versailles. Definitely started strong, but the last couple of episodes were downright ridiculous...
