Re: MIT Engineers
I've just started the streaming stuff so I can't really say if its a pain in the ass or not at this point. I mean, right off the bat I spent 4 hours writing a program to make it tolerable so that should tell you its not convenient.crashcourse wrote:I pay 109 month for 320cable channels
hbo is 10 extra which my kids use the signin codes also in colo and cali
99 year for amazon prime I uses amazon fire with
11.99 for nextflix that covers a kid in cali and one in boulder also
that's 1500 a year --add on the rentals for the boxes and all the taxes/fees and that 109 turns into 150 real quick however
and you are doing it all for a startup fee of 200 or so --how much time do you put into updating everymonth and how happy are you to stream everything 24/7--im not a big fan of relying on streaming services everywhere in my house
last but not least--porn in the workshop? wtf you do with your power tools?
Kodi also has add-ons that are very reliable - Primewire 1 Channel had a bootleg copy of Rogue One the day after it came out . The add-ons are yet another piece of Kodi aside from the IPTV thing.
Here is what I'd say about IPTV - if you just hate the idea of paying a ton of money to watch TV and you don't have any particular need for live TV other than the occasional sports, then what I'm talking about is a great option. But if live TV is central to your life - like the higher tier cable channels, then you may not be happy with the "well it worked yesterday, not sure about today" aspect of it.
That said, thats just for the free stuff. If you subscribe to that $80 a year link, you're golden.
I realized the other night after thinking about our viewing habits that other than live sports and local channels, we don't watch TV. I'm not sure why I've been paying $120 a month for so long as it is, Then again I still have a land line phone too. I'm old.

yeah the live tv aspect is what i'm paying the extra 125 a month I guess
still have my landline too
what I really want to cut the cxord on is sprint
up to 250 a mpnth for those pricks --includes 4 lines but jesus Christ some of these prepaid cars look awful good. don't use my phomne for anything but maybe 5 texts a day and out of town off somebody's wifi once a month or so. course the kids live and die by it.
that cell phone and hbo prime net flix sharing is the last string of support I have with the kids though--probably keep it til I retire

Re: MIT Engineers
bought my kids unlocked cell phone for Xmas so that we can t get away from these carrier contracts. They're happy - new phones with all the bells and whistles, but I don't have a 2 year plan or a monthly payment on the phone. In a couple of months we'll look at which carrier offers the best deal for us.crashcourse wrote:http://www.digitaltrends.com/home-theat ... ing-video/

Re: MIT Engineers
to get an idea of what I'm talking about
download VLC here (free and legal)
http://get.videolan.org/vlc/2.2.4/win32 ... -win32.exe
after you install VLC, click on the media pull down menu, choose open network stream, and then copy and paste this url into the text box and hit play
http://cmghlslive-i.akamaihd.net/hls/li ... aster.m3u8
that is for Channel WJAX CBS47 in Jacksonville, FL
now why would you care about CBS in Jacksonville, FL? Denver, San Francisco, Chicago, New Orleans, Atlanta, Charlotte......

Re: MIT Engineers
this morning's project
if you have a typical hot water heater - not one of those expensified gold plated ones like Brooklyn and Cletus have, they have a metal rod in them called an anode rod.
its job is to do nothing but deteriorate so that the minerals and other crap in your water doesn't attack your the walls and components of your hot water heater.
Depending on how bad your water is, they may have a shelf life of 3 to 6 years, but when they go - meaning they are either completey covered in calcium or they are eaten away to nothing, then the water turns on your hot water heater. If you have a sulfer smell, your water heater is making noise or your get discolored water, then it probably means your anode rod is past due, and even if it isn't, if you have a hot water heater that is more than 3 years old, replacing the anode rod is a cheap, easy job that will extend the life of your water heater by years.
All you need is a 1 1/16" socket and an anode rod. They are all standard other than the material they are made of so you can pick one up for as little as $20. Just get one that looks like sausage links to replace it.
Anyways, I removed mine this morning and it was pretty bad - past the point of being functional and my water heater is on year 5 of a 12 year warranty. I also did some other stuff to it today but this job is pretty easy and will save you serious money like supposedly extending the life of your water heater (as long as you keep replacing the rod) for like 20 or 30 years.
I never knew to do that until I talked to a plumber.
its bent because I had to cut it to get the old out of the water heater

Re: MIT Engineers
using TV on Kodi pdf
http://goatpen.6te.net/TVforKodi.pdf
I tried to make it Saint proof
I'm still working out the kinks of the validator code but I'm pretty close to figuring it out.
I have it where it will check to make sure the channel is sending out a stream and then move it to the master file, the master file is then uploaded to a server.
But that doesn't translate cleanly to the channel streaming video. So there is another level of coding I need to develop that can interpret what a valid stream is.
At this point I can filter out a junk list of 2000 channels down to about 575, and of that maybe 300 of them play. I'll reach out to some people about why I'm getting a stream back from these channels that aren't playing and try to find out what the check is in what plays and what doesn't play in Kodi.

Fail. You can only do that by coming to my house and installing and paying for everything. Revise and resubmit.eCat wrote:using TV on Kodi pdf

Re: MIT Engineers
looks like the master file still needs some work.
I'm a little frustrated after setting it up how many channels still time out.
