yes it did

For the average tourist I don't think its that bad. I expected it to be much worse. They still had some trails that were closed off but since its winter, by the time the tourist season rolls around everything will either be cleared off or rebuilt.

In the long run I think its a good thing for the forest and the area. Surprisingly alot of the buildings that burned down weren't that nice anyways. Whats weird about it is the randomness of the fire. A building would be burned down and surrounded by other buildings that didn't show any signs of damage. In some cases I think someone just threw a match on it and took advantage of the natural disaster.

I'm planning a trip up to Sault Ste Marie and I'm looking at hotels on trip advisor

this cracked me up - just look at the picture they have for it and then read a handful of the reviews

I don't generally book so far in advance, a hotel shouldn't generally have a problem with someone booking a refundable room, then booking a cheaper non-refundable rate closer to trip time and cancelling the original reservation right?

I'll be in Austin in March and the Downtown Omni is offering me 10% off the non-refundable. I thought I would do the same thing you mentioned (book refundable then switch to non as I get closer), but it appears the closer you get to the date the non-refundable rate goes up. A couple weeks ago, the discount rate was $197/night. Now, it's $224/night for the discounted non-refundable. I'm about to just book the non-refundable. The only way I don't go is if something catastrophic hits...and at that point, $500 will mean very little to me.

In this case a little experimentation reveals that the difference is still a solid $50 per night even up to booking the same hotel next week. This is also an 11 night stay so, we're talking thousands in the worst case scenario (cancelling a non-refundable) not hundreds. I also want to leave myself a little open, because the fiance will be searching for a job to start in a few months, and I dont want to hit any kind of snag where honeymoon plans need to be adjusted slightly for a possible job.

I'm pretty sure aTm is an asexual replicant.

But, yes, aTm, unless specified otherwise, it is refundable up to usually 24-72 hours (varies by brand).

I usually book a refundable when doing drawn-out priceline bidding.
