I hit a link in that article about this guy (Bob Filner), don't recall hearing anything about him. Excellent read, esp. the personal accounts of his shennanigans...

Good read. That was pretty big news on the west coast back then.

Exactly. I said neither side.

If anything, Obama tried to play that community college angle to push for retraining of a workforce hoping to still put car doors on Lincolns. I'm not sure where it stalled or whether it is some low publicized success, but my money would be on stall and likely due to budgets.

Now, we have people who want to put their heads in the sand to the economic realities that are here (or coming) instead of focusing on the things that support an environment of meaningful wages and work. The funny thing is, the expected new business environment (which will be just the old environment, imo) will create much more opportunity for me in my line of work. My life will become easier in this administration. That I do believe, based on what I know about the people involved and where their focus lies. Regulation will be rolled back. Government oversight will be scaled back...so I won't have these regulators pouring over my shit like they have been the past month. My life will definitely get better. I'm not so certain for the people in the middle of the country who voted for Trump.

You can't argue a negative, but a government run by Hillary would have been tougher on me and easier on the lower middle class.

<shrug>

What's done is done. I hope the man doesn't ruin us. Sardis, I will post deeper about my thoughts on how regulatory oversight, fiscal policy (including tax policy) and global trade policy can definitely have a major hand in recession. I just don't have the time now to do that much typing.

"She described Filner's penchant for putting her into a headlock and pulling her about, while whispering sexually explicit comments in her ear. She said the mayor often told her he loved her, wanted to kiss her, told her he wanted to see her naked and that she should work without panties at City Hall; and that he wanted to "consummate their relationship.""

I remember this story. It's absolutely horrible. I will say, though, as a man it is heartening to think that I can still keep up a healthy libido (not saying his was exactly healthy...but still) into my 70s. First Mick Jagger. Now this. I still got some decades left!!!!

Corpus Christi Swat team taught the public isn't going to sit around and wait to be shot by them

-----------------

A Nueces County jury has delivered a not guilty verdict in a case where a man accused of shooting three CCPD SWAT officers.

Ray Rosas was found to be not guilty in a shooting that happened February 19th, 2015. Police were serving a warrant at his home on Churchill Drive when they say he opened fire and shot three officers.

When the trial began last Wednesday, Rosas faced seven charges. However, the prosecution dropped three counts of attempted capital murder Monday afternoon, and the jury deliberated three counts of aggravated assault.

Before closing arguments were read Tuesday afternoon, Judge Guy Williams told the jury that evidence had not been dealt with appropriately by prosecutors. He read off a list of 22 items of evidence that the state should have preserved or brought forward before the trial started, but did not.

"And the court further instructs the jury that this evidence would be unfavorable to the State of Texas who did not produce or preserve such evidence," Judge Williams told the jury.

As for the evidence the judge said wasn't handled correctly, the defense used that to reinforce their claim that Ray Rosas didn't get a fair trial.

"The defense can't put on a defense, a complete defense," said Terry Shamsie, one of Rosas' attorneys. "We've been cheated if we don't get all the evidence. That's it!"

Closing arguments were impassioned. The prosecution recalled testimony given by eleven police officers who described Rosas shooting at police.

"Several policemen were shouting out loud as they hit the raid with the flash bang, several times. 'Police, police police!' And what they got back was gunfire," said prosecutor Joe Mike Pena

The defense argued Rosas did not know he was firing at police, after SWAT actions were not carried out simultaneously and he was disoriented by a flash-bang grenade going off in his bedroom.

"The case is so easy," defense attorney Lisa Greenberg said. "This is a self defense case."

It was an emotional day in the courtroom. Several members of Rosas' family were present, including his elderly mother, who was present during the raid. Officer Andrew Jordan, who was shot during the raid, also sat in on the hearing.

Rosas' attorneys Lisa Greenberg and Gabi Canales say their client is very happy after the jury acquitted him.

"Mr. Rosas waited almost two years for this date. He knew that the truth would come out, and he's grateful that the jury listened to the evidence and returned that verdict," Greenberg said.

"I can tell you that he believes the police have done a good job," Canales added. "He has absolute respect for the police in this situation."
------------------

they probably didn't learn anything but in an age of police militarization and swat teams, knock, kick the door down and shoot all happening in a 2 second period, its good to see a jury have a rational response to self defense.

if only they felt that way about the Branch Davidians in Waco.

Video of the raid, I assume. The one that shows them not shouting out "POLICE!"

the Corpus Christi swat team should offer this guy a job

its nothing short of a miracle that this guy, after getting hit with a flash bang grenade shot 3 of their guys without getting a scratch on him.

I bet they shot his dogs though. Seems like Swat teams love to shoot family pets.

Many cops are bad shots. It's scary. Remember the Empire State Building thing where cops shit bystanders and never hit the target once?

I help train at the local police range. They get free ammo, and free time at the range but it's usually fairly empty. Seems like work for them.

I've seen quite a few idiots at gun ranges over the years. Any guy that sets up a target of a human silhouette at 200 yards to shoot his AR at is instantly labeled an asshole by me.

We joined a gun club in Lexington that purchased 1200 acres. $225 bucks a year and a mandatory training class gives you unlimited access including a campsite with showerhouse. You also have to qualify for the long distance range which gets you away from the weekend warriors.

Last time I was there on a Saturday a guy whips out a machine gun. I know he wasn't licensed for it.

speaking of AR's, I just used a red dot scope for the first time - that same weekend with the machine gun guy. I was really surprised at how accurate I could be at 75 yards with it. With no magnification , me and my son were hitting groups that were down right respectable.

I ended up putting red dots on both of my ARs after that.

Also, I bought a 9mm Hi Point Carbine made right down the road here in Dayton. That is about the most fun throw away toy I've ever had. I used to think Hi Point was junk. OK I still do but I think Hi Points are like the fat woman of guns, - it will eat anything you feed it and bang whenever you want, but you don't want your friends to see you with it.
