DS, here's the picture of Andrew--he's crying like a baby there! Of course, he'd been gone 7 months so they'd grown up some! He flies the E-2, you see one in the background.

Ben, I'm glad that Andrew is flying and doing well. I can't believe his daughters are that big. Where is he stationed now?
Please send my regards.

Former Tar Heels hoopster opening doors for business
The owner and tenants at a new Gastonia office building are borrowing a business strategy from Europe and a name from a Tar Heels tactic.
Four Corners on Garrison, a business plaza with a salon, barbershop and offices opened earlier this month.
Kris Lang owns the building and says he had five tenants signed before the center was complete. The Gastonia native started 108 games during his UNC basketball career from 1999-2002 and continues to play in Europe’s professional leagues.
He named the plaza Four Corners partly for the Heels’ celebrated offensive approach. Lang also cites his family of four — he and wife Shaunte have two children — as inspiration for the name.
The couple has another child due in September and Four Corners, aptly, now houses five businesses, Lang points out.
The basketball player/businessman recruited three of his tenants, Next Level Salon and Barbershop and Chad’s Car Cleaning Service, with a plan to mimic a European experience. There, barbers and car washes work together to clean cars while you get a trim, Lang says.
Chad Floyd, who ran the car cleaning business at the site of Four Corners before it was Four Corners, says he’s already seeing the approach work for his small company.
“It’s a good marketing strategy,” he said. “It’s kind of a Walmart, one-stop shopping kind of strategy.”
Floyd has been in business for 20 years, washing, waxing, buffing, shampooing interiors, cleaning motors and more.
At Next Level Salon and Barbershop, husband and wife team Justin and Shannika Marlow moved from their Willow Street location for more space, brand-new surroundings and a higher-traffic area.
The two want to attract a multicultural clientele, according to Justin Marlow, who handles the six-barber shop.
“Anybody can come in here and feel comfortable, whether they’re white, black, yellow or green,” he said.
Shannika Marlow does hair, including silk wraps, sew-ins, Egyptian presses and color, as well as makeup, lash extension and facial and brow waxing.
Lang says he’s thankful business owners bought into his vision for Four Corners, which also includes Plus One Accounting and Dirt Doctor Janitorial Services.
He hopes to one day add a restaurant to the center to make it more of a one-stop destination.

Re: Ostensibly Hoops
DS, I'll tell Andrew you said hi. What are you doing now? Last I remember--I think--you were in law school at South Carolina, but I assume you're through that now.
AA, thanks! I'm working at Patuxent River, south of DC as a contract specialist. It's a pretty good job and I'll probably just hang out here until I retire in 7 years. I may try to snag one more assignment to Germany though! Let's face it, I'm not really Goat Pen material so I doubt I'll really post a lot here. It was fun while it lasted but one of the moderators let me know he'd prefer I move on, so I did.
Stu, Andrew was actually married for his last year at Carolina and had the first daughter before he graduated. He's been married over 5 years now!
Rat, I really am proud of both of them--I feel very, very lucky things have turned out so well for them. Andrew's in the Navy as you see, his wife is just finishing up nursing school, when that happens they'll be set. The other son finished up his Army time down in Honduras, fell in love with it, stayed there after he got out and then started school in Panama (the country) in the fall. Then last year he got a job as a Public Affairs specialist at the EPA in Kansas City so he's all set too. It all fell into place for him--it was a bilingual position and he picked up Spanish while he was down there and that separated him from the rest and he got the job. His girlfriend is Honduran--fiancee really--so he speaks English at work and Spanish at home, so that's good for him too.
So things are going well for the Washburn clan, just let me get to retirement and I'll be happy! I can't for t day when nobody can tell me what to do or sit in judgment of me. I've worked for a boss since first grade so I can't wait to have nobody to answer to!!

I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.
