"Vocal Harmony - white folks developed it into Babershop Quartets, while black folks developed it into Doo Wop, which fed into R&B and Rock & Roll."
Isn't it ironic that from a genre black people originated, a type of music most popular amongst white people developed? And from a place where black people like to hang out, a type of white music was developed?

Black people invented the Blues in the Mississippi Delta, which moved to Chicago along with the great migration.
I went to the Chicago Blues festival once. There were hardly any black people there. Ironic.

Re: Puterbac News Network and Political Discussion Thread
RCP says the PAH has 260 electoral votes, with 9 toss up states. This means Trump has to win all 9 of the toss up states to win.
Game over.
Now the big question is what will become of the Republican Party after the election. It is quite a spectacle seeing a major political party whose leaders despise their own voters. The GOP Establishment governs without giving a thought for the concerns of their own base. In return, the base nominates a kook in order to blow the whole party up. In that, they have succeeded.
They will probably make the split official. The GOP will revert to its historic place as the party of the plutocrats, for the plutocrats. The GOP voters will probably form a separate party where they can shake their pitchforks and torches.
These are good times to be a Democrat.
Game over.

Re: Puterbac News Network and Political Discussion Thread
fivethirtyeight.com has flipped Nevada to pale blue and projects Hils with 340 electoral votes. What is very interesting is the movement in Georgia. RCP has Trump +5 - but their polls are 3 weeks old. fivethirtyeight has Trump +2.6 as of this morning. That puts it one more Trumpisode from being in play.Professor Tiger wrote:RCP says the PAH has 260 electoral votes, with 9 toss up states. "These are good times to be a Democrat."
Amongst the trove of Christopher Hitchens videos I have watched is one from his very early days as a political pundit in which he appears on Buckley's irreplaceable Firing Line, circa 1984, along with some right wing kook and Buckley sycophant by the unfortunate name of R. Emmett Tyrrell. The crux of the show is the collapse of liberalism, which was certainly on the wane, if not its actual nadir, at that point in history, with this Tyrrell figure of fun touting his latest book, "The Liberal Crack-up." Certainly this fellow was a precursor to Rush Limbaugh, Hannity, etc., although the time wasn't quite ripe yet for him to cash in on conservative hysteria, as those that followed him did and still do. Buckley was obviously sympathetic to Tyrrell's cause, but he clearly was more interested in what Hitchens had to say or at the very least in the intelligent, perhaps even mandarin exposition of his points and ratiocination, which were very much more in line with Buckley's own, however far afield their respective efforts led them. Needless to say, you don't see this type of calm, intelligent, respectful exchange anymore (well, if you leave out Tyrrell, who did all he could, despite Buckley's discomfort and Hichens's withering rebuttals, to mar the event)...
At any rate, I wonder what Buckley and Hitchens would think of the current state of affairs of so-called conservatism in the country today and more specifically what they would think of Trump. Actually, I have a pretty good idea of what they would think of Trump, but I would be interested in hearing their thoughts on the total reversal, in 30 short years, of the state of affairs they were discussing on the show that day...

In a little over 40 years we've gone from running liars out of the white house to electing an even worse liar, one protected and enabled by the msm and the FBI. Good times indeed.

I miss Buckley.
I once saw him eviscerate a guy during a debate that I still chuckle at. Toward the end of the show, the guy Buckley was debating with had tried to run with the notion that Buckley was an out-of-touch rich guy because of his "ritzy" tuna melt lunch (it had come up earlier in an off-hand comment). It was really a thing of beauty to watch how WFB calmly chopped this guy into little pieces over his assertion.

Ironically, the liar we ran out 42 years ago ran for President in 1968 by touting a "Law & Order" agenda, openly courting (successfully) the votes of southern bigots and vowing to "take our country back."Toemeesleather wrote:In a little over 40 years we've gone from running liars out of the white house to electing an even worse liar, one protected and enabled by the msm and the FBI. Re: Puterbac News Network and Political Discussion Thread
toe's comments notwithstanding, Americans who don't filter everything with a searing hatred for all things Clinton...see one candidate as statesmanlike, and the other as unhinged. It's really no more complicated than that.
Whereas outside the U.S. you get the sense that everybody, friend or foe, view the GOP nominee as some kind of coke-sniffing Benito Trumpolini who should never, ever, be in control of the world's largest nuclear arsenal.
publishers in Japan are releasing dozens of books about Trump's potential presidency. Titles include "Collapsing America: The World Will Go Mad If There's A President Trump" and feature cover art of a cartoon Trump flipping the bird

For or Against Trump, GOP Fears Intensifying Civil War If He Loses
http://www.bloomberg.com/politics/artic ... f-he-loses
My guess is that he will take a "Vince McMahon" role as CEO of the alt-right, with a rotating crew of alt-right champions who ultimately report to him. I fully expect at least one of his sons to be in that rotation.

Bingo. Even if there is no legal split, the GOP will become 2 parties. The question is - does Trump remain as the face, or does he concentrate on profiting from the movement and defer to a younger, more polished person to be the face?Charlie Sykes, a Wisconsin-based conservative radio host and Trump critic, was pessimistic. He speculated that Trump would start his own TV network after losing the election and influence the party beyond 2016.

The loss of integrity/morals/statesmanship in media and gov't (IRS, VA, FBI...etc) has absolutely nothing to do w/Trump.

The Democrats got outraged that Trump groped a couple of women. But they'd jump up and cheer if he had groped a couple of dudes. If that happened, Hillary would lose her lead quickly.
