Re: College Football
I'm in North Carolina now Nags Head. Lovely evening breezy and nice. I participated this past weekend in the National Reenactment of the Battle of Bull Run/Mannasass. Which will be the first of Civil War 150th anniverary events. Great event but hotter than hell. Now I can relax and fish on the Outer Banks.

Jesus, you guys actually dressed up in Civil War regalia in Manassas last weekend? That sounds like a line from a Bad Idea Jeans commercial.

I don't get the "now I can relax" part
I thought that play date civil war stuff is what you did to relax

I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.

Yep, wool uniforms and all. Crowds were huge inspite of the heat. Fortunately they made the main show battles in the morning. The afternoon was unbearable. Nothing to do but roast. I played it smart, changed clothes and got the hell out of there and didn't come back till after dark. Left right after the battle Sunday.Ron Mexico wrote:Jesus, you guys actually dressed up in Civil War regalia in Manassas last weekend? That sounds like a line from a Bad Idea Jeans commercial.

The First Battle of Bull Run took place on Sunday July 21, 1861. This event commemerated the 150th Aniversary. 2nd Bull Run took place on the same ground a year later on August 30, 1862. Both were Confederate victories.Saint wrote:was it the first battle of bull run or 2nd?

Re: College Football
I'm honestly a little bit surprised that no one died out there Saturday in those wool outfits. I guess it was a small stroke of luck that Sunday was slightly cooler, as opposed to Friday which was even worse than Saturday. In any case you guys are freaking dedicated to go out in that weather.Fifer wrote:Yep, wool uniforms and all. Crowds were huge inspite of the heat. Re: College Football
How many soldiers in the actual 1st Bull Run died of heat stroke?
Sure, I could have stayed in the past. I could have even been king. But in my own way, I am king.

Well, to be fair, they probably weighed at least 25% less than the re-enactors.

You got that right, younger too. ATM I couldn't tell you how many died of heatstroke that day I'm sure it was several dozen. Inspite of that casualties were actually lite in that battle, compared to the bloodbaths later in the war. They hadn't learned how to kill each other at that point

What can I say other than the show must go on. We don't often get to do this on a national event basis with a cast of thousands, so most don't pass up the opportunity no matter what the weather.Ron Mexico wrote:I'm honestly a little bit surprised that no one died out there Saturday in those wool outfits.
