Don't even know where that is. Ohio River would have been a better choice.

If you have a heated pool, you can use a pool down here beginning the end of April through the middle of October, if not longer. If you have natural gas at your house, I would imagine that the costs wouldn't be prohibitive.

my apologies to the religious among us. Warning, this is somewhat irreverant:

God, in need of a vacation, calls his travel agent:

"I really need some time away," God says. "I just want a relaxing getaway."

"How about one of the moons of Jupiter?" asks his travel agent.

"Lovely, truly, but the gravity is more than I want to deal with at the moment," God confided.

"No problem," says the travel agent, "how about Kolob. It's stupendous this time of year."

"I said I want to relax. Everyone knows me there and I never get a moment to myself."

"Well, you could always go to earth. Some truly great spots there," said the travel agent.

"Earth? Are you kidding me? Earth?!" God was clearly incensed. "I knocked up some Jewish chick there two thousand years ago and they're still talking about it!"
My Dad is my hero still.

Today is Linwood's birthday, so everyone was wishing him happy birthday, and Jose blurts out "feliz cumpleaños, negro!" Then he said "Linwood is getting ready to eat his birthday cake... watermelon cake!" In fairness, they are cutting up a watermelon right now (a good one, too). Also in fairness, Linwood and Jose participate in mutual racial antagonism of this sort on a daily basis...

Given that McDonalds used to own a pretty big chunk of Chipotle, they're gonna be pissed if this thing takes off

I kinda like the idea of moving down the line and having them put the stuff I want on a burger - if that's how they're going to do it.

Shit.

One of the managers in my organization had a meeting with one of their analysts. This manager is a bit of a negative reinforcer, who can be relentless to the point of overbearing. Anyway, this manager was having a morning meeting with this analyst and just kept on him about a mistake he made (which was a mistake, but only in execution...not result, fwiw). The analyst lost it. He was visibly agitated, nostrils flaring and teeth bared as he spoke. He got so upset he grabbed his notebook, said "I have to leave" and left and took a walk to cool off.

The manager came to me and recounted the incident and said that they felt threatened by the interaction and does not feel safe with this analyst.

1. I've known this analyst (and the analyst has worked for me, in some capacity) for a decade.
2. I've never viewed this person as dangerous, nor ever witnessed this person get violent in words or actions (which is rare, considering this is finance).
3. The analyst is about mid-50s, 6'1" and 155 lbs
4. The manager is a 34 years old woman
5. The manager has not a single good relationship with anyone on her team, but she is very good at her job (from a technical aspect), she just struggles with how she communicates with people

I've given them both my assessment of the situation (essentially, not a workplace safety issue), but have basically given it up to HR to sort through...which is fucked up because neither one will be happy with what is going to come out of this.
The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.

The analyst shouldn't storm off with bared teeth. That's an acute issue. The manager should communicate better, but that's a chronic issue that upper mgmt hasn't fixed yet.

I side with the mgr in this one. Storming off in a hissy fit isn't the answer. Regardless, that relationship is toast now.

Wait..."upper mgmt hasn't fixed yet." Just say it, AA, you calling me a bad boss!

Yeah, the communication thing has been the focus for over a year now. I've set the manager up with classes, workshops, a mentor and now I'm going to try an executive coach and then work with HR on some things with her team. It's been tough because she's getting better, but it still has not been enough for her team.

I don't side with the manager on this. While storming off in a hissy fit isn't the answer, or professional, or of good decorum...it does not constitute a workplace safety issue. If I deemed the actions to be physically threatening in any way, I would have terminated him immediately. We have zero tolerance (of course) for that. I'm not setting this dude's career in a tailspin because he got pissed at a manager he has not respected nor felt that she respected him the past couple years.

I have to separate them and switch up my staffing, but the manager has the more significant amount of individual development to perform...and she's not going to like that answer, since she feels unsafe around this person. I just haven't seen anything that points to him being a danger to his manager or anyone else.
The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.
