Closing borders to a faith wouldn't work. How would you know what they reallly are? Ask them? What if they lie?

Yes, I 100% bellieve that SIMPLY closing the borders to ALL travelers from certain regions, of certain faiths doesn't help. It is not attainable nor sustainable. It would be a bureaucratic nightmare (yay, bigger government!). It would not even be able to be effectively enforced, considering the volume of countries Muslims can originate from with visas to the US.

I DO believe that IF we allow in refugees from war-torn countries where Islam is the predominate religion, then I would not feel comfortable unless there is a very strict and diligent vetting process and plan to make sure the absorption of these individuals is a success. That is what I took AA's point to be.

Hopefully that is clearer. I think your view is reductionist. If you feel safer taking your shoes off before you go through the body scanner at CVG, God bless. I know it means nothing and I'm more interested in the real things the TSA implements to help make my flight as safe as possible.

that's a really bad analogy. I don't feel safer taking my shoes off. A better analogy would be - do you feel safer profiling people at the airport and searching them before they get on a plane - and the answer would be yes.

so let me make sure I understand - you're fine with not allowing refugees from war torn countries until we get a handle on how to vet them, but you think allowing muslims from countries that aren't war torn is OK.

and that won't lead to bigger government and will be effectively enforced?

So we're at a point of allowing some muslims, just not all muslims....like allowing them from Saudi Arabia, but not Iraq.

Well, the analogy wasn't made for how you feel, the analogy was made to highlight the fact that some ridiculous plans may make you feel safe, it doesn't mean you actually are.

I think that using "Muslim" as the ultimate qualifying metric is a fool's errand. I think our intelligence resources should be focused on identifying people that are threats and then keeping them from entry, if they are abroad.

I am neither arrogant enough nor knowledgeable enough to say how the intelligence community goes about doing it today and how it can be done better. However, I do feel I'm solid enough to say that just saying "hey, Zayn from One Direction, you can't come in."

That's the Christian terrorist approach. Make everybody put a Christ on the Cross, Muhammed, Krishna or a Buddha in a piss jar. That way you can reuse the icon. If anyone gets too upset, don't let them in.

One of the first speakers tonight at the repub convention is Willie Roberson from Duck Dynasty. Shortly after that, Scott Biao will speak. Then comes three women from an organization by the name of "Victims of Illegal Immigrants". This should interesting. Or not...

its pretty embarassing, but I will admit to not ever knowing who the speakers are on opening night for any convention.
