His style of leadership might work well with the Middle East. They only respect brute force in that part of the world, and they had the time of their lives dealing with a weak and feckless US president for the past 7.5 years. I worry he'll play a game of military chicken with Russia. Putin's personality is very much like Trump's, and those two megalomaniacs could get us into a Cuban Missile Crisis-like situation.

I also worry Trump will pick a fight with China. He keeps saying that we have "yuge" influence over them. I think they have way more influence over us. They can simply stop feeding our addiction to borrowing money and stop buying our t-bills. Or worse still, they can start dumping their trillions of dollars of US t-bills on the world's financial markets. That would trigger a 1929-like event here for sure.

Dyer, a white Republican Representative from St. Louis, Missouri, worked with the NAACP to introduce an anti-lynching bill into the House, where he gained strong passage in 1922. His effort was defeated by the Southern Democratic block in the Senate, which filibustered the bill that year, and in 1923 and 1924.

Ironically enough, Teddy Roosevelt and the GOP were champions of Civil Rights for blacks and women. It was the damned southern Democrats - and Woodrow Wilson - who pushed segregation.

So it must have been in the '20's that half the blacks in Mississippi moved to Chicago due to lynchings. When I lived near there, that Mississippi-Chicago connection was still alive and well. Practically all my black friends still had relatives down there.

Also, I have always been a big fan of Teddy Roosevelt, and have read several biographies of him. They all talked about his almost Bernie-Sanders-like war on the trusts, his "talk softly and carry a big stick" foreign policy, and creation of the National Park service. They said little or nothing about his role in Civil Rights. Another reason to like him.

Biggest exodus to Chicago was WWI - blacks went to the factories there to work. In the West, the big movement was WWII - the Sunset Limited was a train route from Louisiana to California and many of the black families from Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas came to California because of the jobs. A lot came to Bakersfield first because of the oilfields and cottonfields - familiar work - before heading to Los Angeles and manufacturing jobs.
