You don't have to be cryptic. Your denomination, and us here at the Pen, are more accepting now.

I'm surprised that list didn't include Ted Haggard and Eddie Long.

(A few years from now, chicken hawks like Eddie Long will be hailed as heroes. They will be the new Bruce Jenners.)

Dude, far from "open & accepting" - my denomination is closed & condemnatory.

Haggard is on the list. Long hasn't acknowledged his sexuality yet.

I'm happy to report that our republican governor vetoed the bill that would have made the Bible the official book of Tennessee. Hallelujah.

And yesterday the sponsors of our own state LGBT bathroom bill took notice of the backlash that has befallen NC and withdrew it (there's a massive search underway by the media to find a T so they can get a reaction to the news).

There is indeed a God and she has surely gifted some of our legislative troglodytes with some new brain smarts.

This is a country of 300 million people, and the best two candidates we come up with are Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump?

Our next president will be either a lying greedy criminal or an arrogant inexperienced buffoon.

God help us.

Also, I'm surprised that you haven't lit on the notion that maybe your god is punishing us. You know, for all the homosexuals and such...

More like just giving us up to our own devices.

So we said fuck you to god and his response is to say "no, fuck you"? Sounds like a slightly more advanced version of "I know you are but what am I?" But just slightly...

If Trump and Hillary are some form of divine punishment, our current national obsession with LGBT rights is probably down on the list of reasons. But I haven't seen the specific list, so I'm just guessing.

I tend to agree with sardis' assessment.

The use of this barbarous weapon at Hiroshima and Nagasaki was of no material assistance in our war against Japan...My own feeling was that in being the first to use it, we had adopted an ethical standard common to the barbarians of the Dark Ages. I was not taught to make wars in that fashion, and wars cannot be won by destroying women and children. - Admiral William Leahy, Chief of Staff to President H. S. Truman

He also said this before they tested the bomb.

"That is the biggest fool thing we have ever done. The atomic bomb will never go off, and I speak as an expert in explosives"—Admiral Leahy to President Truman

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_D._Leahy

Even though he had a high position during the decision whether to bomb or not, they chose to ignore him because he had proven earlier he was an idiot.

There were other generals and admirals that disagreed with the atom bomb decision. Maybe you heard of this one:

from Ike on Ike:
During [Stimson's] recitation of the facts, I had been conscious of a feeling of depression and so I voiced to him my grave misgivings, first on the basis of my belief that Japan was already defeated and that dropping the bomb was completely unnecessary, and secondly because I thought that our country should avoid shocking the world opinion by the use of a weapon whose employment was, I thought, no longer mandatory as a measure to save American lives. It was my belief that Japan was, at that very moment, seeking some way to surrender with a minimum loss of 'face.' - former President Dwight D. Eisenhower

Hell, Japan is one of, if not the, staunchest allies we have. Isn't it a shame all of those hundreds of thousands of civilians, mostly women and children, were incinerated or died a grizzly death? We agree on that much, right?

It's likely we would have armed Japan to the teeth to defend against Soviet influence in Asia without their own desire to shun war after the bomb, plus bombs would have begun to proliferate without an example of their destructive power (particularly post fallout), so even if Truman was some bloodthirsty asshole who did it to slaughter japs, or whatever, it probably did save cold war lives.
Sure, I could have stayed in the past. I could have even been king. But in my own way, I am king.
