He missed his scheduled concussion protocol meeting because of it...and he lied about it. Those are pretty significant things that speak to character. Shit like that will ultimately poison a franchise.Saint wrote:I don't see what the problem is with Manziel if it's not actually affecting his performance. So what if he likes to party? Let him party. If doing so affects his performance, then bench him or cut him. This type of bullshit is going nowhere.
On a related note, the Browns are so desperate they've called in a failed baseball metrics dude to run the personnel side.

heheheh ... I knew the Batman of Metrics would be here shortly. When Jonah Hill plays you in a movie, you are a failure. Plus, he sucked with the Dodgers.

Brooklyn-I get the missed meeting, that's a problem. However, character issues are not traditionally a problem for NFL teams.

I don't care if you call him a failure. I was just injecting that into the conversation.Saint wrote:heheheh ... I knew the Batman of Metrics would be here shortly. When Jonah Hill plays you in a movie, you are a failure. Plus, he sucked with the Dodgers.
Sure, I could have stayed in the past. I could have even been king. But in my own way, I am king.

Yeah, the most successful years of Cowboys football was fueled by blow, from the 70's to the 90's. Don't recall hearing too many people complain about LT being a coke head either...

I'm stunned at anyone who knows they could be cut from a career that few people in the world will ever get to experience and still decide to go party.
Its beyond irresponsible.

Re: College Football
Johnny Manziel is not the talent level of Michael Irving or LT. There is an inverse relationship of talent level relative to punishment applied, when it comes to pro ball players. Lesser players would have already been cut by NFL teams after the first partying Instagram photo showed up, particularly since they all agreed Manziel had to tone that shit down. Manziel can at least take pride in that.hedge wrote:"However, character issues are not traditionally a problem for NFL teams."

He shouldn't be harassed for partying. The Browns benched him because he was seen partying. If they let him play and he sucked because he was worn thin by the partying, that would be different. But the Browns are cutting their own throats here.eCat wrote:I'm stunned at anyone who knows they could be cut from a career that few people in the world will ever get to experience and still decide to go party.

Re: College Football
Considering the highly public statements from the coach and organization about the conversations held with Manziel and the ground rules imposed, his wanton disregard for those agreed upon rules is concerning. Now, you can say the Browns should not have put those [agreed upon] rules in place, but they are the rules in place. To me, the Browns didn't bench him for partying. They benched him for agreeing to a set of ground rules and then disregarding them.
Again, stuff like this is not good for a locker room. He's been given more rope than most other rookie/2nd year players. The Browns cut their own throats drafting a guy so early in the draft and he's turning out to be exactly who people thought he was.

That's because he is the guy that people knew he was, not that he's turning out to be that guy. That's my point. The Browns drafted a kid who has shown he is capable of doing remarkable things on the football field and who has shown that he likes the nightlife, he likes to boogie — on the disco round, oh yeah. So, what do they do? Try to change him. That's on them. I agree that Manziel is responsible for not following the rules set out by the Browns and he will suffer those consequences but, IMO, it's on the Browns to think that he was going to change and then impose rules designed to curb his very nature. Either deal with him on a football only basis or just let him go. They're never going to succeed in the manner in which they are attempting. But then, they are the Browns.
