Re: Alabama Crimson Tide
Coach Mc needs more Jimmies and Joes on the line before any plan will make a dent in the Tide.
So if the following scenario unfolds --
Ohio State wins out
Clemson wins out
OkState wins out
Bammer wins out
ND wins out
The 1st 3 are in with 12-0 or 13-0 records
Does Bammer get the 4th spot because they are 12-1 and came out of the SEC, or does 11-1 ND get in because their loss came on the road to a higher ranked team?

Re: Alabama Crimson Tide
Can't answer that because of the "Bammer" designation. Revise and resubmit.

Replace 'Bammer' with 'The team in Tuscaloosa once briefly coached by Mike Price'.

Bama gets the 4th spot. 20 years ago, ND would have gotten the 4th spot with two losses. But that was when ND was the darling of the CFB media and power brokers. That distinction now belongs to Oklahoma.Does Bammer get the 4th spot because they are 12-1 and came out of the SEC, or does 11-1 ND get in because their loss came on the road to a higher ranked team?

Re: Alabama Crimson Tide
Uh, no.
Bama gets the first spot if they win out. They'll have to depend on a Clemson or anOSU loss to get the 4 spot if they lose to AU or MSU but it will be close. Okie State isn't getting in unless everyone else loses, but Baylor would if they win out (make up for last year). Notre Dame is like Okie State, they need several losses above them to have a chance.
Clemson would get destroyed by Bama. Their OL has done a good job given their youth but Bama would dominate them like they did LSU and force Watson to throw or run, and he doesn't anticipate especially well. Bama in the playoffs again is the Top 10's nightmare scenario.

Then the Top 10 had better start taking ambien.Bama in the playoffs again is the Top 10's nightmare scenario.
Clemson might lose to Bama, but they wouldn't be destroyed. Bama's defense usually has trouble with spread option offenses, and Clemson runs it very well.Clemson would get destroyed by Bama.

30 years ago ND would have gotten a guaranteed spot in November regardless of their record. Thank God those days are gone.Professor Tiger wrote:Bama gets the 4th spot. 20 years ago, ND would have gotten the 4th spot with two losses. I gotta think the current 'darling' of the CFB media is not a specific team but whoever the SEC Champ turns out to be.
If it comes down to 12-1 Bama (there you go AA) and 11-1 ND -- in a vacuum with nobody watching I'd nod to the Irish because their 2pt loss at Clemson is better than the Tides home loss to Ole Miss, but a playoff without the SEC would not look legit to the committee.

Re: Alabama Crimson Tide
Few things:
Bama will have a better SOS. The Irish are 16th or so, and Bama is 2nd or so.
Bama will have a SECCG.
People still remember the Bama-ND NC game. Fair? No, but it's a thing.
Comparing whose loss is better won't be a factor.

Re: Alabama Crimson Tide
Agree the recent bowl matchup might matter when it shouldn't - but we're talking about a select committee hashing this out in the same room/conference call - not a ton of sportswriters diffused across the country.

Re: Alabama Crimson Tide
They're human too and have inherent biases. The SOS will be enough to get Bama in. Honestly, I see them dropping Baylor before droping Bama.

Re: Alabama Crimson Tide
Any youse bama fans know the scoop wrt these persistent Saban-to-replace-Pagano stories?
As a lifelong colts fan, I kinda like the idea...but as a Vol, I don't want CNS to escape the beatdown he has coming to him in KTown next year. I am conflicted somewhat. Any insight would be appreciated..

Re: Alabama Crimson Tide
lol. Over the last five years, Saban was a LOCK to leave for the Longhorns, the Browns, the Cowboys, and the Bears. Now the Titans and the Colts.
It could happen, but he is 64 and makes 7.5 million a year at Bama. Hard to imagine. But he's in his 9th season as Bama. Maybe he's bored?

Re: Alabama Crimson Tide
Yeah, it's probably bogus. Article I saw had Irsay saying he was going after Saban, but there was nothing about whether Irsay was sober or not. Or it could be Saban's agent floating this around, knowing Irsay has bouts of memory loss (hard to deny something you said when you black out over entire weekends).

Dr. Nostron wrote:Bama will almost always (as long as they have Saban) crush I formation teams like LSU and UGA.
Ole Miss etc will continue to give them trouble.
Bet the farm on mIss state this weekend at +7.5
Dr. Nostron.
I bet the farm on Miss State. What kinda relief do you offer for such bad advice?
