Re: Puterbac News Network and Political Discussion Thread
Statistics and odds routinely show that you're far more likely to be murdered by a spouse or friend than a complete stranger and possibly 1,000,000 times more likely than ever being killed by a terrorist. Yet freedom-loving conservatives insist the govt be given every power of surveillance, every power of search and seizure, every power of indefinite arrest, in order to stop the "scourge" of terrorism.
Which is about as winnable as the War on Drugs. Oh yeah, the govt and police should have unrestricted power in that "war" too.
That's not tyranny or oppression in any way.
What's tyranny is having to wait 3 days to purchase a gun. George Washington never would have stood for it!

No no no. Anybody who is this violent must be a Tea Partier. Probably a Christian. They're the real threat.

The gunman has been identified as Chris Harper Mercer.
An online dating profile, linked to Harper-Mercer's e-mail address and featuring another photo of him, says the 26-year-old was living with his parents and searching for the "yin to my yang." It identifies his views as "conservative, republican," and lists "organized religion" as one of his "dislikes."

Much to the disappointment of prof and Sardis, it doesn't sound like he was a Muslim.

There are many threats, but you are correct to identify christians (even in your usual lamely facetious way) as one among them. Everything is trending towards my way of thinking, though, and away from yours. Not to worry. Your type is still the majority and will be for our lifetimes. But the end is nigh, and has been coming for several centuries now. The best part is that both the winners (me and mine) and the losers (you and yours) in this game are both very well aware of that fact. One group with relief, the other with chagrin...

Another act of anti-religious violence by an atheist nut job. I'm sure Stalin, Mao, Pot, and hedge's other atheist forbears are proud.Dr. Strangelove wrote:The gunman has been identified as Chris Harper Mercer.

I would defer to a better example of tyranny that we see multiple times nowadays.....the msm enabling a president to circumvent the constitution.

Last night the president said that states with the strictest gun control laws had much lower homicides. If that were true, his hometown of Chicago, plus Baltimore and DC, would be the safest places in America instead of the shooting galleries they actually are.

Mass shootings by white men/teens, the occasional killing by a white Hispanic or any cop shooting a black man, that's all that counts.
That's capitalism....nobody watches CNN till this happens.

16 cases of mass murders/shootings that Obama has come before the press on in 7 years
16 cases of mass shootings in 7 years
couple of transvestites come out of the closet and the entire military system and governmental approach is revamped at the costs of millions to have separate facilities monthlong celebrations and acceptance of transvestites into military. laws are passed courts make decisions and bruce jenner is a hero with his brave coming out and our government sucks the tit/dick of every rainbow organization out there to ensure we don't hurt anyones feeling no matter what the financial cost and the decrease in readiness
30 elementry kids, 10 college kids, 30 college kids, 20 ft hood personnel, 2o people in a movie theatre, 10 in a church, 20 a week in Chicago etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc
what do we get from congress
crickets
36 die a day from guns
I think Syria and Iraq have days that have less killed then that
its gotten to the point now where everyone one of us knows people who died from guns
so whats the answer

Re: Puterbac News Network and Political Discussion Thread
The most common denominator between mass shootings is mental illness. That was the case in Sandy Hook, Aurora, and VA Tech. (The Ft. Hood shooter was driven by his religion and the Charleston shooter was motivated by racism. We'll see about this latest POS.) So if you want something that is EFFECTIVE in stopping mass murders, then disrupting that common denominator seems like the best place to start. I'm pro-2A, but I'm all for laws that bar crazies from having access to guns.
That's much easier said than done. If you're a nutjob, and you're filling out the background check form when you buy a gun, and it asks you if you are being treated for mental illness, you're obviously going to lie. Plus, if a guy who is going through a divorce and is on prozac, but is not homicidal in any way, can you take his gun away from him just for that?
If you are a mental health care professional, and you are alarmed by what a patient says, you can lose your license by violating confidentiality laws by reporting it. Maybe those laws could be changed, but when word gets around that the doc's will report patients to the police, the people who need treatment the most won't seek it, and the problem might get worse.
A lot of these nutjobs post their craziness on the internet beforehand. But the first amendment makes it difficult to arrest people for what they post unless they make a specific threat.
If there was a simple solution we would have found it by now.

Univ. of Texas Tower Shooter Charles Whitman's Rifle Up for Auction
AUSTIN (KXAN) - A relic from the darkest day in the history of the University of Texas will go on the auction block. Ex-Marine Charles Whitman opened fire from the UT Tower's observation deck on Aug.1, 1966. Sixteen people and an unborn child were killed on campus, and 32 others were wounded before Whitman was killed by police.
Now, the Remington 700 rifle used by Whitman almost 50 years ago is up for sale. Dallas' Texas Gun Trader website has the rifle with a starting price tag of $25,000.
The posting, which includes spelling and grammatical errors, reads in part: "Once in a lifetime opportunity to purchase the UT Austin Sniper Rifle once owned and used by Charles Whitman during the sniper shootings in 1966."
The owner, who does not want to be identified, is selling the piece -- saying it comes from the Whitman estate and has documentation. As for why the gun is up for auction, we're still waiting for a call back.

During a press conference later, O'Mara was asked if he had any advice for Zimmerman, and he answered, "Pay me."
