I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.

I'd hike a trail if it doesn't take too much time, like more than 3-4 hours, but I don't want to take too much time away from other destinations.

Took the family to the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Bentonville, which was the last major Civil War battle fought just a few weeks before Lee surrendered to Grant. It was the first Civil War reenactment I'd ever attended and I was impressed with the level of commitment as well as the scope these fuckers go to. Granted, the battle scene (which we only saw the last few minutes since the car line to get there was 2 miles long) was probably far from accurate and I seriously doubt the majority of soldiers were fat, old guys, at least by the end of the war.

Of course, there were plenty of rednecks who felt the need to emit their own rebel yells when the Confederates came marching by. But there must have been folks from all over the country that came to be in it.

2 of my favorite moments were the sunburned redneck daddy looking at his 4-year-old daughter toting a rebel flag (no doubt made in China) and sternly telling her: "Honey, don't let that flag touch the ground!"

The other was sitting under a tent where this black family who lived directly across the road from the battle field were selling fried chicken leg quarters and hot dogs. 2 Union reenactors were sitting there beside us and another one came up, dressed a little oddly and acting flaky. One asked him if he was wearing cologne. Then after Flaky Guy remarked how hot it was, one of the other guys, clearly dubious about Flaky's level of commitment, goes: "Wait, is that thermal underwear you have on under there?"

There was a long, uncomfortable pause...

"Thinking about doing a week long road trip just myself in early May. Anyone have suggestions? I have done the California coast trip and somewhat of Colorado already."

I would think ocean or mountains would have to be in order. You could do the outer banks or any part of the appalachians if you want to keep it close to home. Can't go wrong anywhere out west. Sounds like a great trip to me...

I drive by the battlefield every morning and evening during my commute. They had people still camped out this morning. People started arriving Wednesday.
I proudly took AFAM 040 at Carolina.

Do you crank up Love is a Battlefield by Pat Benatar on your radio when you drive by?

I'm up in Helen, Georgia. Rolled my ankle bad on a hike. I've come here for comfort and sympathy.

So, now I'm eating ibuprofen and drinking gallons of Warsteiner Dunkel while the wife antique shops. Quaint little town done up with alpine architecture. Smaller and less touristy than Gatlinburg, but not as many scenic vistas, either.

In fact, the townsfolk call it "Alpine Helen" - have no idea if that name is official.

No, I don't do the battle remakes. I think it was BOJ who participated in those.

Even though I have been to the Outer Banks before, I wouldn't mind going back again without kids complaining that there is nothing to do. That's the point of Outer Banks. Maybe spend a few days on Ocracoke engaging in some fishing, adult libations, and other general laziness. Also, I have been in North Carolina for 25 years now and have never been to New Bern, Elizabeth City, and Edenton. Wouldn't mind swinging buy those places.

AA, if it is of any consolation, I severely turned my ankle playing basketball back in November and I still yet to recover completely.
