That shattered backboard is even more impressive being a one-hander. It's not really that amazing when 300 lb. Darryl Dawkins hangs on the rim and pulls it down, but that guy just ripped the rim off with one hand. Also, check out the cheerleader at the corner of the court. She starts to get up and cheer and then just freezes...

Jerome Lane was not a small guy. Maybe from a height standpoint, but he was a load in the paint and racked up some rebounds.

Onion should recognize the point guard on that play since he now coaches his favorite team. Charles Smith also was a teammate. Probably Pitt's best team in their history and I was fortunate enough to see them a number of times since I lived there at the time.

Just a side note, there was a young asst. coach on Pitt's team that year by the name of John Calipari.

So they offer academic scholarships to athletes to get around the no athletic scholarships?

Interesting.

I just wanted to pop in to see if Goldenbear was ranting and raving as much as I have today, as our game with Pitt has looked more like a prison shower scene.

It is beyond time for Roy to step down. Hell, maybe we should take a cue from Syracuse and offer to skip the NCAA Tournament this year. We might not make it at this rate, anyway.

I just saw the highlights from that game.

Clearly Carolina is in disarray right now
I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.

Van Gundy was an assistant there too. That's a helluva coaching staff

I starting to hope this team implodes because thinks wont be fixed until Roy is gone, he is pitiful.

Meeks starts the game out 5-5 and gets UNC back in the game and then Roy does not really go back to him all game long.

Paige as been brutal this year he as regressed as a player, I pray Tokoto goes pro he is an awful basketball player.

I hope Pinson is back soon, Jackson is the worse defender i have seen kid should have red shirt and told to work out.

UNC should play Berry, Paige, Pinson, Hick and Meeks with Johnson and Britt off the bench and a few minutes from James.

Interesting.

Div. III and many D-II schools offer packages of academic money, financial aid and other loans/grants to lure student-athletes. The D-IIs can offer athletic money but most of the time it amounts to less than $2K per year. of course that always depends on the school but the number of scholarships, not enrollment, determines the athletic classification.

I know the tiny D-II in our town (about 1,100 undergrad with only a couple of grad programs) has nearly half that number playing a sport. The coaches are expected to be academic recruiters basically. There's nearly 40 guys on the baseball team that gets 2.5 scholarships to divide up, so I'm guessing some of them are probably only getting $200 or so.

It's funny how parents invest a lot of money in their kid playing on a travel or club team in hopes of getting an athletic scholarship when they probably should have invested that money in a mutual fund to pay for college. Even D-I soccer/softball/volleyball/tennis/lacrosse/etc players get a pittance in terms of athletic scholarship money.

You want a full D-I ride? Play football or be very, very good in basketball and be a male.

For whatever it's worth, I think Pitt is historically a beast at home, particularly with teams in the Top 25, for some reason. They win a surprisingly high amount of games under those conditions, even if they are not ranked.

(I remember that Jerome Lane dunk, I think he did it twice. I forgot Charles Smith's bitch ass was on that team. That era was right before they went to break-away rims, with the Jeromes and Shaqs of the world contributing to the change)

5'7" kid works at dunking a ball for 6 months. Video tapes his progress.

I wish I had done this when I was his age

So hard to watch Kentucky get call after call in all these games, whya re refs so bad at their job,

lose ball they the go over back

2 left on shot Ulis bailed out by ref, then miss ft and Towns over the back for and one.

If games got called straight up Kentucky would have 5 or 6 losses
