Re: Uncle Bud
So the mom is very, very sick. Pops held a surprise 80th birthday party for her 2 weeks ago. She barely made it. Went into the hospital on the 24th (the day after her birthday). bowel obstruction due to the cancer. Will probably send her home on Friday. Had to break it to my father that we are only looking at 1 to 2 weeks after that. As intelligent as my father is, this was a real surprise to him. The only thing my mother said was that she doesn't want to go into a hospice.
A young physician came to my mother 2 days ago and bluntly told her "your cancer is spread, there is nothing we can do, you are going to hospice." My mother told her "No, I'm not." i got into town the next day. Had to read her the riot act. I know the type. You're wasting money, this is what I'm going to make you do. NO DOC. IT ISN'T YOUR DECISION. My mother had 5 children. She married a Professional. Among her children are two physicians (one who runs a hospice), two lawyers, a respiratory therapists, one with a master's in psychology who is married to the President of a large hospital system and a nephew pharmacist that she helped raise. You will give us the information and we a family WILL DECIDE THE NEXT STEP.

Re: Uncle Bud
Sorry to hear that but I agree. My mom's cancer is no longer treatable. She probably has a year I would guess. They wouldn't give us a timetable. In March I moved her into a retirement community because shes also delt with Parkinsons for 22 years and kept falling in her house and breaking things the past 2 years leaving her in nursing home rehab. Her apt is in the same complex. When they told us a few months ago that her cancer was no longer treatable they put her on hospice care only to be taken off a few days later. She's still her old feisty self and isn't ready either.

Re: Uncle Bud
I hate to hear this
Its been a rough few months on here with Hedge just losing his mom awhile back.
If anyone needs anything from me, I will be happy to help
btw, that's an impressive body of work for a mother Spacer
for my mom it would be "none went to prison" but the bar is set pretty low in my family.

Re: Uncle Bud
Sorry to hear that. I found out with my mother that you have to be pretty vigilant when they are in the hospital. There is nothing evil with the doctors, it's just there is no way they can know everything that goes on with all the different specialists and tests a patient is taking. The kids have to keep up of what is being told to mom.
It has been a rough year for moms. We are all about the same age here, except maybe for crash, with the same issues with parents, wives, and kids.

Re: Uncle Bud
Sorry to hear that Spacer. I know you mentioned awhile back that your mom was ill, sorry to hear that it has progressed...
Not sure what's going on with her doctors or the folks at hospice. My dealings with them were nothing but positive. No hard sell whatsoever and in fact, just the opposite. They were like "You can get on hospice at any time, and if you change your mind, you can cancel, but then can get back on at anytime after that if you change your mind again." Could not have been any less pressure. I can't imagine that with physicians and lawyers in the fambly they would be hot-boxing your family like that. Bottom line, as you obviously realize, is that it is totally a family decision. My mom was good with it, of course, she was only on hospice for a couple of weeks. At any rate, good luck. Just not an easy thing to deal with, none of it...

Thoughts and prayers to you and your momma, Spacer.
Sure, I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is, I'm not. I honestly just feel that America is the best country and the other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

Re: Uncle Bud
Thanks. It's hardest on my father. They've been married 61 years. Being told that your spouse and companion of such a long time is dying. Plus he's gone blind himself. It's tough. I've been married 29 years now and don't know how I could take that news.
As for Mom, she's really had a good life. Raised in poverty on a farm, the only one of her siblings to go to college (two older brothers), her mother with a 3rd grade education was a domestic for a very wealthy Republican family Albert Fay. She became a teacher (even taught little Beyonce and LeToya in the 3rd grade). Still, I'm not ready.

Re: Uncle Bud
My heart goes out to you, Spacer. It's tough.
2014 sucked for me, right along with many on here, as far as loss. I've been very fortunate my life to not have major losses in my family, but this year lost one of my closest uncles, my brother, my grandmother-in-law (who was 100) and grandmother (100, as well).
This is life and it's understandable, but it doesn't reduce the weight. My best to you and yours, bruh, as you go this and to all of you on here that have felt that sting this (past) year.

Never mind, I guess those were only there for a few minutes, snuffed out by the wave of jackasses that had to add their "RIP, Stuart!"

Re: Uncle Bud
The effects of out patient thing I had this morning are wearing off now.
Whatever they gave me in the I.V. was sweet. Everything was just good. I don't remember anything until I woke up but in the recovery room or whatever its called - that's the most relaxed I think a human being can be. I've been in that state between naps for the past 4 hours.
I can see why Michael Jackson would want a doctor to give him stuff like that .
