Denver broke two records Wednesday.

The city's 6-degree high on Wednesday shattered a 98-year-old record for the coldest high on this date. And, according to a National Weather Service tweet late in the evening, the temperature had fallen to -5 degrees at Denver International Airport — a record low for the date.

The previous record low of -4 was even older, set more than 130 years ago in 1882.

It just snowed in Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Michigan UP. It was also freakishly cold in Chicago, frightening residents that this winter will be as historically brutal as as the last one.

I asked my son what it was like getting to class at the University of Illinois last winter, where the temps were routinely 20 below zero, only to have the professors insist that the planet is heating up like a sauna. "Who are you going to believe? University of East Anglia computer models or your lying skin?"
