Re: Georgia Bulldogs
How can UGA even consider firing Richt? He has a .737 winning percentage, finished in the top 10 six times and won the SEC twice.

Re: Georgia Bulldogs
Georgia can't fire him. He's done too good of a job to merit firing. However, everyone knows he cannot and will not win a national championship with Georgia. Georgia's only hope to move on from Richt is that Miami efforts to turn their program around by hiring a Miami guy who has impeccable integrity, is a peerless recruiter, has a good record against his rivals, and always competes for championships...
Honestly, it would be a win/win/win. Georgia wins because it gets to keep Pruitt and hire Kirby Smart (the only question is will he keep his best friend as OC?). Miami wins because Richt will turn their program around and restore their place in CFB. Richt wins because he can win the ACC Coastal on a consistent basis and will certainly manage to win the ACC several times, and therefore, probably get to the playoffs coming out of the ACC.
It's a good dream.

Re: Georgia Bulldogs
Again, I'm not sure I agree. Jimbo Fisher and Mark Richt had pretty similar head coaching careers prior to 2013. Richt obviously had a longer career with more success, but both are excellent recruiters who built solid teams but had one or more head scratching losses a year. Then Fisher got a once in a lifetime QB in Winston...and won the NC. If Richt had Winston this year, they might very well be undefeated and sitting at #1. If Jimbo had Hutson Mason this year, he has 2 or 3 losses minimum. It's Richt's job to get a suitable replacement for Aaron Murray but he was obviously entrenched for 4 years, which makes it harder to get a blue chipper.
Note: I realize UF ran all over UGA and I was at my son's baseball tournament and missed the game, but I do believe that both teams' game plans change significantly if Winston is UGA's QB and the game would have been entirely different. Winston changes things.

Re: Georgia Bulldogs
Heh - NOT going to happen at least for a long while. Miami (of Florida) is not going to spend the money to buy out two contracts, and if you've noticed the attendance lately at their football games (the only money sport, right???) they have no money to do so. They'd have to either get a super pissed off booster willing to front a shit-ton of money, or dip into their academic coffers (which I assume is illegal) to do so. They've raised like $1.3B out of the $1.6B goal in the current academic fundraising effort so they do know how to bring money in.DDAL wrote:Georgia's only hope to move on from Richt is that Miami efforts to turn their program around by hiring a Miami guy who has impeccable integrity, is a peerless recruiter, has a good record against his rivals, and always competes for championships...
Re: Georgia Bulldogs
We Georgia Boosters would agree to pay the buyouts since Richt does not have one.

Re: Georgia Bulldogs
While he doesn't have a buyout fee, I would assume if you fired him, you be obligated to pay him a decent chunk to satisfy his contract.

Re: Georgia Bulldogs
Interesting - I didn't know he was without a buyout. He would still command double what Golden makes (and his buyout isn't public) and Miami's AD is struggling.

Disgusting. One of the top 3 or 4 coaches on the nation loses to a good team with their backs to the wall and it is all about firing him.l think that is bs. UGA fans are all over him on the Finbaum show. Get off his back

Re: Georgia Bulldogs
Richt,'s skill is pregame motivation and game planning. He has never won because of his sideline skills. They underestimated the UF determination. So what. He will still end up 11-3.

Re: Georgia Bulldogs
Since Richt became coach:
Bama has 2 SEC Titles and 3 MNC
LSU has 4 SEC Titles and 2 MNC
UF has 2 SEC Titles and 2 MNC
Auburn has 3 SEC Titles and a MNC
Georgia fans have a reason to want more than they are getting. Richt gets outcoached, his teams outplayed, and his best players suspended every year. As the saying goes, there are no bad soldiers, only bad officers.
How no one saw that the regular place holder wasn't in the game on the fake FG is inexcusable. How nothing was done to get the linebackers and db's to set the edge on the trap and zone play is baffling. Finebaum has been saying Richt will never win a championship for years and he's unfortunately right.

Re: Georgia Bulldogs
Actually that was the defensive coaches (plural) responsibility. Every year georgia 's problem on the big games comes down to defense. That is a recriiting problem. In sf read of going after Sox running backs he should concentrate on defensive tackles and ends. Fla played 9 defensive linemen and you couldn't tell the difference.

Maybe l noticed because l was a d lineman.
Re: Georgia Bulldogs
I think that's a fair assessment of our average DL and lack of depth on defense, and I agree that defense is why we have lost most of the games we've lost over the last 9 years. That is all very true. However, the HBC is in charge of knowing what's going on and assessing the flow of the game. He is responsible for not detecting the back up grocery bagger. He doesn't call any plays! He just stands there as it all unfolds good or bad. The only thing he does do is waste precious clock ticks at the end of the half... 22 seconds ran off before he called timeout and then he just ran the clock out anyway.

Re: Georgia Bulldogs
How could UGA lack depth on defense? They recruit as well as any team in the SEC. I bet there isn't a single defender on the 2 deep roster that isn't at least a 4 star.

Re: Georgia Bulldogs
If UGA fires Richt, who will you get to replace him? That's the tricky part.
You can guess right and get a really good coach that is successful for a long time, like Saban. But you might get a one season wonder like Chizik or Tater Tot. Worst of all, you can get a coach that starts bad and just gets worse, like Muschamp and Dooley the Younger.
Your powers that be need to sort that all out before you can Richt. At Auburn, we send our high ranking search committees on secret flights to interview new coaches before the old coach is even fired.

And that's how you ended up with Chizik.

Re: Georgia Bulldogs
Incorrect. Jet gate happened in 2003, and they were going after Petrino.
Tubby stayed and won a People's Choice National Championship in 2004.
Speaking of Petrino, UGA could go for him. That would be a culture shock. He'd replace Bible studies with lap dances in the Athletic Department.
