The real question is what will happen in Todd's case? Manziel's autographing sessions came out before the season started. Georgia can't just sit and wait and can't play an ineligible player. They are stuck here and at the most critical time of the season. It seems to me that the NCAA should just accept a self-imposed 2 games and be done with it. However, if they actually do have as strong of a case as is being reported, then the shitbags will undoubtedly want to make an example of Gurley because they have so much egg on their face after Manziel, Newton, and Miami.

His replacement wasn't so bad.

Meanwhile FSU's credibly accused rapist is still playing.

Perhaps you forget - UGA is in the SEC and is therefore immune, anOSU is in the non-SEC and is therefore a target for all wrath.

If UGA says, "boys, here's what we're doing - 2 games, done, end of story" they'll be fine. If UGA says, "gosh, Mr. NCAA, I don't know what to do here. Whaddya think?", they'll be on probation for years. Don't give the NCAA anything, and tell them to fuck off. The O'Bannen trial effectively neutered them.

Wrong. Greg Dent was kicked off the team then found not guilty of sexual assault in a court of law. He remains off the team.

No, the SEC is not immune. We're under more scrutiny. The only one who usually gets upset with a school being in NCAA trouble are the fans of the school in question.

Gurley is perhaps the first, and that's limited. The gossipy rival fans are quick to shout , "there's more to come!"

People were shocked that Manziel didn't get anything really. We still talk about the Cam Loophole, and on the other side, Bama having to vacate games because of an improper textbook loan had idiots wanting us to lose scholarships and be banned from a bowl on top...even though much more egregious examples in other conferences existed with no punishment meted.

I agree 100%. UGA complied with the NCAA when this happened to AJ, and in return they suspended him for 4 games. UGA has to say we're self-imposing the mid level sanction and expect you to accept it. The NCAA will have had its compliance rules satisfied and can't look stupid if the dealer is wise enough to never say a word to the investigators and thwart their investigation.

The only fear in doing that is a pendulum swing by the NCAA to prove they are still 'tough' and relevant. I've seen it with mid level, incompetent managers who worked for me. They may look to make an example of someone.

I agree that's why I believe two games is enough for them to move along. This isn't a recruiting violation. It is a rampant problem at all schools in both football and basketball. They simply cannot enforce this rule and the schools have been given the authority by the NCAA to implement some advancements in compensating the most productive players for the use of their likeness.

The answer for this issue is Slive. If he approaches the NCAA, there would be no issue. The SEC is one of the conferences slated to self-administer discipline. I'm sure the fine folks at UGA have approached him.

I can stomach him being out Saturday even though it is unlikely we win without him, but I can't stomach him not playing against UF and Kentucky. I've read it will be the whole season, but that's not likely.

Arkansas is better than most think, but at some point the players will quit buying in and give up. Get up by 10 or 14, and you'll win by 30.

The NCAA is a group of clowns. When the power 5 conferences bolt, I will be happy.

The only case they got right was the Cam Newton case.

UGA will throttle UF with or without Gurley. The Gators are a mess.

Speaking of Georgia and tagging onto a previous convo re: Jeremy Pruitt -
@BruceFeldmanCFB: New DBs? No sweat. #UGA is nation's only team yet to allow a play of 40+ yds or longer. Last year, #Dawgs gave up 13 http://t.co/cuCsaTnl3t

Slive's great achievement is that he got SEC programs to stop turning each other in and built a stone wall of silence with regards to the NCAA. The SEC was going on probation like crazy during the 80's and 90's. It's strains all believability that they are just a lot cleaner today, even with significantly more money flying around everywhere. The NCAA is pretty incompetent at finding dirt on anyone unless a rival turns you in or you self-report.

No, the change was with the NCAA more than the SEC. Even if SEC teams don't go straight to the NCAA now, they go to the SEC office, who files a report with the NCAA anyway.
