There's video of the crazy guy in St. Louis getting shot and killed by the police. I count at least 8 shots fired, several of them while he's already lying on the ground. He's shot at just about 1:35 into the video

One caveat: the cat scans, etc., cannot be from 5-6 days after the event.

Nothing new here....move along.

CHICAGO (WLS) --
Antonio Smith, 9, was fatally shot in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood, his family told Eyewitness News Wednesday night.

The victim's relatives made a plea to the shooter, who remains at large on Wednesday night.

"He was just a child, just a baby, still had a whole life ahead of him. And like, why? Just a child," said Kenya Eggleston, victim's cousin.

Smith was shot multiple times in the chest around 4 p.m. Wednesday in the 1200-block of East 71st Street.

There are no politics, money to be raised, news headlines, or stores to be looted when black people kill black people.

Sure, I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is, I'm not. I honestly just feel that America is the best country and the other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

okay well then that's that. There should not be any charges pressed against the cop. There shouldn't be because the DA should be smart enough to know that he or she will not get a jury conviction.
Still no reputable source. The NY Post cites the same dubious website that crash linked to and Fox cites an "unnamed source close to high-level officials."

The Fox story claims the cop was rushed to the hospital by the Assistant Police Chief . . . a few questions

1) Why wouldn't they report that immediately? There'd have been NO rioting with a cop in the hospital.

2) Why didn't the EMTs take the cop to the hospital? They were there within minutes and didn't treat Brown at all, so they should've stabilized the cop and transported him via ambulance. Riding in a car risked a bump or a jar driving loose bone fragments into his eye or brain. Any doctor he saw would've certainly ordered a CT scan, etc., so the guy would've been in the hospital for several hours, if not days.

3) Where are the shots of the Chief of Police visiting him at the hospital? Police Chiefs are politicians and there isn't one in the country who would pass up that photo op. A picture of a cop with a bruised face and gauze over his eye keeps the FBI in D.C.

Turns out US production can influence world price. Times past w/the Middle East boiling over like it is now, prices would be skyrocketing.....another dem talking point goes down the tubes.

LONDON (Reuters) - Brent crude oil fell towards $101 a barrel on Thursday, just above a 14-month low, on plentiful fuel supplies and Chinese economic data pointing to slowing demand.

The world's top two crude oil benchmarks have fallen by more than $10 a barrel since June on a build-up of supply in the Atlantic Basin and diminishing worries over the risk that conflicts in the Middle East would hit oil production.

Global economic growth also appears to be faltering, fueling concerns a market surplus could last for some time.

Libya has resumed exports from its largest port, helping push the country's oil output to its highest for months, while top exporter Saudi Arabia raised its output in July to 10 million barrels per day.

Brent crude for October was down 90 cents at $101.38 a barrel by 0920 GMT. It touched $101.07 on Tuesday, its lowest since June 26, 2013.

U.S. crude slipped to its lowest since January at $92.50 a barrel, down 95 cents, before recovering to trade around $92.75.

"There is no shortage of oil," said Andrey Kryuchenkov, oil strategist at Russian bank VTB Capital in London.

They camped that night on the foreplain at the foot of a talus slope and the murder that had been reckoned upon took place. The white man Jackson had been drunk in Janos and he had ridden red-eyed and sullen for two days through the mountains. He now sat disheveled by the fire with his boots off drinking aguardiente from a flask, circumscribed about by his companions and by the cries of wolves and providence of night. He was sitting so when the black approached the fire and threw down his apishamore and sat upon it and fell to stoking his pipe.

There were two fires in this camp and no rules real or tacit as to who should use them. But when the white man looked to the other fire he saw that the Delawares and John McGill and the new men in the company had taken their supper there and with a gesture and a slurred oath he warned the black away.

Here beyond men's judgments all covenants were brittle. The black looked up from his pipebowl. About that fire were men whose eyes gave back the light like coals socketed hot in their skulls and men whose eyes did not, but the black man's eyes stood as corridors for the ferrying through of naked and un-rectified night from what of it lay behind to what was yet to come. Any man in this company can sit where it suits him, he said.

The white man swung his head, one eye half closed, his lip loose. His gunbelt lay coiled on the ground. He reached and drew the revolver and cocked it. Four men rose and moved away.

You aim to shoot me? said the black.

You dont get your black ass away from this fire I'll kill you graveyard dead.

He looked to where Glanton sat. Glanton watched him. He put the pipe in his mouth and rose and took up the apishamore and folded it over his arm.

Is that your final say?

Final as the judgement of God.

The black looked once more across the flames at Glanton and then he moved away in the dark. The white man uncocked the revolver and placed it on the ground before him. Two of the others came back to the fire and stood uneasily. Jackson sat with his legs crossed. One hand lay in his lap and the other was outstretched on his knee holding a slender black cigarillo. The nearest man to him was Tobin and when the black stepped out of the darkness bearing the bowieknife in both hands like some instrument of ceremony Tobin started to rise. The white man looked up drunkenly and the black stepped forward and with a single stroke swapt off his head.

Two thick ropes of dark blood and two slender rose like snakes from the stump of his neck and arched hissing into the fire. The head rolled to the left and came to rest at the expriest's feet where it lay with eyes aghast. Tobin jerked his foot away and rose and stepped back. The fire steamed and blackened and a gray cloud of smoke rose and the columnar arches of blood slowly subsided until just the neck bubbled gently like a stew and then that too was stilled. He was sat as before save headless, drenched in blood, the cigarillo still between his fingers, leaning toward the dark and smoking grotto in the flames where his life had gone.

From your last link:

"according to a source close to the officer who spoke to ABC News today."

Is that his mom? His attorney? His bookie? There is a female friend of his who has been calling in to all of the right wing talk shows and, so far, this "source close to the officer" is the ONLY ONE claiming the orbital bone fracture.

As for the footage in the store, it's not material since (as the Ferguson PD claims) the cop didn't know about the theft and it was 10 minutes before the shooting. The victim smashing the cop's face, however, is central to the credibility of the cop and the witnesses. It's the ONE piece that ends this thing immediately . . . and no one is producing any evidence of it, other than apocryphal and anecdotal third hand references.

[I excerpted the last 3, which are no-brainers in my book.]

5 Ways Police Should Rethink Their Training

Make Friends With Community Policing
It’s not like the Department of Justice didn’t tell you so. It’s been pushing community-policing standards and guidelines (pdf) for years, and some cities are listening ... a little. It’s one reason, noted U.S. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) when he talked to The Root, the Big Apple hasn’t blown up like Ferguson since the choking death of Eric Garner by New York City Police Department officers. It could also be why the Los Angeles Police Department is only getting an earful of music from angry residents rather than a street full of rocks and bottles. Both cities, in recent years, have taken up community policing as a standard. But with SWAT-team invasions on the rise, don’t look to it as a panacea.

More College Degrees
Only 16 percent of police departments (pdf) nationwide require “some type” of college education for hiring (not even the full degree). We’re guessing that Ferguson and St. Louis County don’t. Because if they did, we wouldn’t be seeing tactics that even military experts are calling “dumb.” Maybe if police agencies would stop hiring most cops straight out of high school, we’d see a marked decrease in police bullies. And as a matter of fact, two researchers (pdf) found that this approach works, citing reduced brutality in the 1 percent of police departments that do mandate college requirements. College-level training not only might save wasted money on empty diversity workshops but also might give cops and agencies the expertise they need to understand social, political and economic dynamics in the neighborhoods they patrol.

Pump Up the Exercise
Sounds trivial? It’s not. Studies have found that cop fitness levels are below normal, thereby impacting job performance and attitude. And some policymakers, such as former Colorado Senate President Peter Groff in a conversation with The Root, have suggested that it’s time officers patrol “less from their cars and more on their feet so they can interact with people.” A Temple University study (pdf) also indicates that foot patrols are what’s needed. In Philadelphia, crime dropped more than 20 percent in some hot spots after police Chief Charles Ramsey required all newly graduated recruits to walk their beats.

While these are small steps, they could make a dramatic turn in the right direction.

Last speech from the soap box before I go to the office:

I have a been a part of meetings over this incident from July:

Los Angeles - which has no problem rioting - has remained calm. Why?

1) The California Highway Patrol got in front of this thing immediately. They did the whole "suspect was combative/officer defended himself" knee jerk release, but they also announced the officer's name, service history and what administrative steps would be taken while they investigated (cop put on desk duty).

2) When the video surfaced, they acknowledged it rather than running from it, then they explained that the officer shouldn't be judged guilty until the video was put in context, but they were referring the video to their internal unit AND to the District Attorney.

3) They met with community leaders & clergy, promising a transparent and timely investigation. There were NO promises of any action against the officer, just that the investigation would be thorough and the evidence publicly scrutinized.

ALL OF THAT OCCURRED WITHIN THE FIRST 36 HOURS OF THE INCIDENT.

Subsequently, the CHP met with community leaders weekly, updated us on the progress of the investigation, later bringing in the District Attorney's investigative unit to explain what the applicable laws were with respect to the cop's use of force (i.e., what he was allowed to do and what was considered "excessive"), without making any promises other than to continue investigating.

Yesterday, roughly 6 weeks after the incident, they met with us again, didn't reveal any of their internal discoveries, but announced that the patrolman was relieved of "peace officer" status and was on administrative suspension (paid to stay home) and was being referred to a civil service hearing (presumably to fire him). Further, the District Attorney would be taking over the investigation. The DA's people couldn't comment about whether the guy would be arrested, but they said the investigation was a priority.

So . . not a rock thrown or building looted. No promise of whether or not the cop will face criminal charges (my guess is that if he accepts his firing quietly and goes away, so will the threat of criminal charges). No calls for the resignation of the CHP Commissioner or massive retraining of officers or demands to hire more minorities. All it took was transparency, professionalism and communication.

JD I understand your skeptism/cynicism and after all the facts are in the grandjury does its job and let the chips fall where they may

the biggest issue I have is the overreaction of the press and community to the point people were at risk for being hurt and the national guard is called out--and our leaders and pulic figure did nothing but inflame the situation--from jesse/al to the mayor/police chief to the govenor to the attourney general to even the president of the united state.

instead the cop was villified inflamming even more the community for a kid that by most accounts may not have left the officer with any choice but to open fire.

overreaction may not be the right word in the death of an 18 yo--but the kid if accounts are right certainly was stupid with his actions
