Nowhere else in the U.S. did people feel as negative about their work environment as in Mississippi. But this was just one of the problems facing state residents. Respondents were among the most likely in the nation to lack access to basic necessities. More than a quarter of people surveyed in the state indicated they did not have money for food at some point in the previous 12 months, while nearly as many lacked money for health care. By a number of measures, the state was one of the absolute poorest in the nation. The median income in Mississippi was just $37,095 in 2012, lowest in the nation. Also, 24.2% lived below the poverty line, more than any other state. With limited access to basic needs and poor healthy behaviors, the state was among the worst in the nation in physical health assessments. Last year, no state had a higher obesity rate than Mississippi. In 2010, no state had a higher rate of death from heart disease or a lower life expectancy at birth than Mississippi.

Jesus, IB. Have you no shame?
#1) Don't take the Lord's name in vain.
#2) I have said nothing for which I should feel shame.

We have 50 states. There is going to be a 50th in life expectancy. That can't be helped. It can't be helped because there are 50 and we can very easily rank these things.

I suppose it is better than Somalia but no, Mississippi is not a great place to raise a family. There are not a lot of job opportunites there. The jobs that do exist pay crap money. The primary and secondary education system sucks (albeit Ole Miss is an excellent school.) And we can't prop up MS because they already lead the nation in Federal transfer payments (per capita.) 49% of all dollars spent in that state were Federal transfer payments (majority of which, social security.)

But it is great place to retire to because your $100 spent there gets you $115 of goods and services. Which was the whole point of Toem's graph which you missed because you live in a world of liberal-malignant-narcisism.

The misery index in WV and KY wouldn't have anything to do with the attack on the coal industry, now would it?

Very possibly. Or maybe the per-capita meth usage?

Lets assume it is the attack on the coal industry. Liberals (who apparently don't give damn how expensive renewable energy production is) also don't give a damn that some people have an IQ of 85. These people are not going to start technology companies or become brain surgeons. They might not ever be able to graduate college (or even pass a Calculus test.) They need steady, good paying, and most importantly well-formed-work in order to live meaningful, stable lives. Well-formed-work pays for land and houses. Well-formed-work puts food on the table. Well-formed-work enables these people the opportunity for marriage and raising familes. Coal mining gives that to these people (the same way working in the Bakkan oil fields does for those who are willing to travel to North Dakota.) But liberals think nothing of shitting on them (particularly the ones that go on Bill Maher's show) saying that "these people" can just go get other jobs, we don't have to send them into the coal mines.

Rest assured, they'd rather work in the mine for $23/hour (plus overtime) than flip burgers for $7.60/hour.

okay well then that's that. There should not be any charges pressed against the cop. There shouldn't be because the DA should be smart enough to know that he or she will not get a jury conviction.

The only way this cop is arrested and charged is if the DA is forced to pull a Nifong [pulling a Nifong = charge innocent white person(s) with something to secure re-election to DA's office in predominantly irrationally outraged black community that would otherwise vote him/her out of office.] As far as I'm concerned, that is the only way this cop goes to trial.

I have no real response to the BART shooting. The cop sure as hell shot him when he clearly didn't need to. I read the part about him yelling he was going to tase him, but he grabbed the wrong one? Pretty weak. He got off easy with involuntary manslaughter.

The other one the story says:
Guidry drew her handgun as she was about seven feet away from Arellano, investigators said, and he moved toward her. When she told him to stop and show his hands, he responded again with obscenities and told her to shoot. She backed up, and he continued to approach her with an “aggressive demeanor,” investigators said. Guidry feared he would overpower her and grab the gun, she told investigators. When he was about three feet from her, she shot him once in the upper chest. Paramedics pronounced him dead when they arrived minutes later. According to a witness who was in the juice shop at the time, Arellano put his hands up, then down again as he interacted with the officer. As he exited, he was smiling and laughing — being a “smart ass,” the witness said. He lunged at the officer as he stepped out of the shop, the witness added, possibly to try to intimidate her. Given the statements of the officers, the witness and several videos of the shooting, a jury would likely find that Guidry reasonably believed her life was in danger from Arellano, the District Attorney’s investigation concluded.
Seems like a taser would have been more appropriate, but she had her gun out and the guy came at her anyway. There the weaker female argument may have come into play?

That would be one argument.

I think the bigger argument is that he committed suicide by cop. You lunge at a cop when the cop has his (on in this case, her) gun drawn? Suicide.

Its just like the guy who came at the two cops in Ferguson two days ago, now he's dead. Why are people so stupid? If the cop says you are under arrest, stop running, just stop where you are and do NOT approach the cop, put your hands behind your back, they will come to you and cuff you and you live.

My ex-wife has got into the act now....

Mann Coulter wrote:The old media just love creating huge racist hoaxes -- which has done so much to improve the lives of ordinary black people!

Luckily for America, especially African-Americans, the advent of alternative media has reduced the Non-Fox Media's ability to stir up urban riots. Today, it's possible to get information that never would have seen the light of day in the 1980s.

In less than two weeks, the original version of the racist police execution of Michael Brown -- or "Big Mike" -- has already undergone major revisions. We were told:

-- Big Mike was the sweetest kid, he'd never hurt a flea.

Then we got the store surveillance video of him robbing a liquor store and manhandling the clerk. Perhaps Big Mike committed his first-ever crime 11 minutes before his encounter with Officer Darren Wilson, but it doesn't look good.

-- He was shot in the back.

At least two autopsies now establish Big Mike was not shot in the back.

-- He didn't touch the police officer.

This week, we saw the X-ray of Officer Wilson's fractured eye socket.

-- He was holding his arms up surrendering when Officer Wilson shot him.

That's at least in doubt now that a video of a Big Mike supporter has emerged, capturing the private conservation of an eyewitness confirming the officer's claim that Big Mike was running at him.
I didn't hear one word of any of this on ABC's Good Morning America or This week with George Snuffleupogus.
Mann Coulter wrote:On the tape, one black man tells another:

"Him and the police was both in the truck, then he ran -- the police got out and ran after him ... Then the next thing I know he comes back toward the truck 'cause -- the police had his gun drawn already on him. The police kept dumping on him, and I'm thinking that the police missing ... but he kept coming toward him."
Egads. And I was just complaining about the primary and secondary education system in Mississippi.
Mann Coulter wrote:Some would say a private conservation, unintentionally recorded immediately after an event, is more credible than alleged eyewitness accounts by people who know they're talking to the press.

But if MSNBC can spend six months on a bridge closure in Fort Lee, New Jersey, they can probably do at least a year on a police shooting in Ferguson, Missouri.
For journalists (with a political agenda) they pick and choose the news they want us to hear. Fox News is the Devil.

Ha. I assume she's referring to the one in that article linked here? That was just a random stock photo of an orbital fracture.

The point of the article was clearly stated: which states give the most value for $100 spent. There's no argument that MS is the best value. However, "best value" is the booby prize for being arguably the worst state livability-wise in terms of wages, education, health, and crime. You've said as much yourself...with vigor (all I did was post cold stats).

FYI - MS ranks 36th for states to retire in. Better than 50th, for sure - but not "great." Access to good healthcare apparently trumps your stupid fucking 3.99 buffet.

And learn how to spell narcissism, you misogynist dimwit.

Still no reputable source. The NY Post cites the same dubious website that crash linked to and Fox cites an "unnamed source close to high-level officials."

The Fox story claims the cop was rushed to the hospital by the Assistant Police Chief . . . a few questions

1) Why wouldn't they report that immediately? There'd have been NO rioting with a cop in the hospital.

2) Why didn't the EMTs take the cop to the hospital? They were there within minutes and didn't treat Brown at all, so they should've stabilized the cop and transported him via ambulance. Riding in a car risked a bump or a jar driving loose bone fragments into his eye or brain. Any doctor he saw would've certainly ordered a CT scan, etc., so the guy would've been in the hospital for several hours, if not days.

3) Where are the shots of the Chief of Police visiting him at the hospital? Police Chiefs are politicians and there isn't one in the country who would pass up that photo op. A picture of a cop with a bruised face and gauze over his eye keeps the FBI in D.C.

I smell 6 tons of horse crap.

They also build ships at Ingalls (or did, I don't know if they shut down or not) but car manufacturing at one plant in Mississippi does not make the state an economic power. It isn't. It never was. It never will be. (I think they have pretty much always been either #48, #49, or #50, since 1959 anyway when we went to 50.)

They don't have the education in Mississippi. They will not be an economic power in the information age. Can't happen. They don't have the people. In Massachusetts, if I have $500,000 cash in the bank, I could rent 5000 square feet of office space (somewhere), hire 10 entry-level-developers, run lean for 6 months, and bid on multiple multi-milion dollar software development projects for large companies. That happens all the time in MA because the technical people are available. That shit does NOT happen in Jackson MS. But, I'll bet you can make $30K dealing poker in Biloxi to retirees when their SS checks come in.....
You'd lease 5000 sf and run lean? Something tells me you have no clue what you are talking about.

If the cop did have a facial fracture, then there will be a plenty of evidence to prove it - medical records, cat scan results, medical staff witnesses, etc. If there is such evidence, then this becomes a Tawana Brawley case. Without such evidence, it continues to look like a Rodney King case.

One caveat: the cat scans, etc., cannot be from 5-6 days after the event.
