Ray Nagin, who served as the mayor of New Orleans during the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in prison following his conviction on a host of corruption charges.

The sentencing caps off a stunning fall for Nagin, who was elected as a reform-minded mayor and became the face of the city during Katrina before eventually leaving office with low approval ratings and big ideas still unrealized. “I’m not in it for the money,” Nagin said after he was elected to the first of two terms in 2002.

Call it the ghost of the polar vortex, the polar vortex sequel, or the polar vortex’s revenge. Meteorological purists may tell you it’s not a polar vortex at all. However you choose to refer to the looming weather pattern, unseasonably chilly air is headed for parts of the northern and northeastern U.S at the height of summer early next week.

Bearing a haunting resemblance to January’s brutally cold weather pattern, a deep pool of cool air from the Gulf of Alaska will plunge into the Great Lakes early next week and then ooze towards the East Coast.

The worst airport in the US (that I've flown into) is LaGuardia. It's like a slum, except worse.

Dulles and Dallas Fort Worth are the two worst, to me.

Dulles, because it's a two hour drive to get there from DC during daylight hours.

DFW, because whenever I have a connecting flight, it is ALWAYS on the opposite side of the airport, which is a 45 minute fast walk or a 30 minute jog. If you have less than an hour to make your connection, don't stop to pee or you'll miss your flight.

Dulles is bad. I hate the people movers that truck from one terminal the other. I hate any airport that is expansive to the point that it pushes you with a connecting flight. DFW, ATL, even Charlotte and Minny, to a degree.

Conversely, Reagan is the best one, IMO. 10 -15 minutes to downtown. I hate O'Hare because you are a good hour from town by taxi or train.

I flew out of LaGuardia a couple of years ago, for the first time. I was amazed at what a dump it was, especially since it is in the most dazzling city in America. I frequently fly out of Atlanta and O'Hare, and both blow LaGuardia away in every way.

Reagan is a great airport if you're just in DC for a couple days. I use that one every time I go. Won't need a car the whole time you're there

Minny, yes, (although that's a great airport), but Charlotte? I've never had any problem getting from one end to the other fairly briskly. The only smaller "major" airports I've ever been to are RDU (obviously) and Burbank. I love those...

I had a bad experience at DFW, missed a connector due to their fucked up customs area. But it's not a bad airport...

I said Charlotte because I recently flew through there. Landed at Gate E, and had to make it to Gate A in 10 minutes for a connecting. Seemed like about a half mile of walking.

DC is my favorite city. A lot of it has to do with the ease of getting around.

Even though I fly out of Charlotte and don't really know the difficulty in a transfer, I can see how Concourse E is problematic since it is an odd appendage away from the rest of concourses at the airport.

I don't envy you a 10 minute layover (if you can even call it that). That would be pushing it at almost any airport...

Originally a two-hour layover. First leg was delayed for unnamed "mechanical issues" - which is always comforting. And at Charlotte, at least between those two concourses, was a decent walk. I had the FA radio the other plane, and they held it for me (and others).

I fly in and out of Denver a lot. It's nice and clean and modern. It's like a small Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson in its layout. Its USO center rocks too.

I'll be flying there in a couple of weeks out of Birmingham. Never flew out of there so I'm not sure what to expect

BHM is a decent smallish airport. You won't have any problems.
