"More Americans watched the World Cup than the Super Bowl and I just read that even to my amazement"

That would be amazing....If it were true.

Good thing nobody forces people to only watch one sport and one sport only.

Seeing the girl Joey Chestnut proposed to before his competition, it's quite evident that competitive eating athletes do not get the chicks...

There's nobody to defend it from except people who will be dead soon.

The Super Bowl was watched by something like 112 million Americans. The World Cup was 27 million. That outdid the NBA Championship by a half dozen million, or so, but the NBA Championship is not a single elimination tournament...and Game 7s are really the ones that large amounts tune into.

Either way, I'm happy soccer is gaining interest this season and I hope it stays up. Expecting it to pass football, baseball or basketball anytime soon is a bit foolish.

I will say, if a few American soccer kids fracture their vertebrae in games best believe Bob Ley and others will have their specials on rotation questioning the dangers of playing soccer, like they are with football now.
The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.

2013 had a game 7 and it was on the flagship ABC rather than ESPN cable. 26 million.

Not that the comparison is really valid, just saying that the World Cup an international every 4 year event with a near nationwide rooting interest is and will be going forward a much bigger event than NBA finals. Now the MLS Cup final is a much different story.

I fell in love with soccer relatively late. I have a friend who works at a hospital in London and he took me to Stamford Bridge to see the hated ManU team come in.

He met me at my hotel, and I was wearing a crimson-colored hoodie - which he insisted I change before we left. "Don't you have a blue shirt, mate?" Anyway, When the passions run that deep, it at least deserves a fair chance...And after I learned the basics: namely, the rules, and that it wasn't just a bunch of guys running all over the place without reason, I came to the realization that it was an exciting sport. Will it supplant football, baseball, and basketball for me? No, but I get it now. Most people who like sports, if they give it a shot, will like it, too.

Soccer interest will die once again. People have been saying soccer will take off since I was 3. Not gonna happen. To boring.

The superbowl is every year, worlds series every year, nba championships, etc

World Cup has a more olympics vibe to it, and Americans love to cheer the olympics, but they don't give a fuck about olympic sports the other 3 years.
I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.

"I have to admit, I was pretty shocked that there are dedicated soccer stadiums anywhere in the United States. I have to re-evaluate my impression that fandom has of professional soccer."

Next time, why don't you start with the facts BEFORE you form an "impression" based on nothing more than the phantasms of your own fevered imagination (also known as lies) and then spouting off nonsense based on the same? It would save you embarrassment (although I suspect that is, sadly, a feeling your are utterly unfamiliar with) and everyone else time from having to peruse your farrago of nonsense and lies...

We have quality athletes playing the sport. We just need qualify coaching at the youth level for skill development.
I proudly took AFAM 040 at Carolina.

120 minutes for basicaly 4 scoring chances--the final one admittedly prettygood. but overall I still dont get why this game is so popular

rather watch football/basketball/auto racing/golf/baseball/hockey in that order before soccer. unless USA is playing which generally is 4 games every 4 years

Maybe you just don't like it. There are plenty of people who don't like those other sports too. Although generally you only hear the haters pipe up the same way about auto racing out of the ones you listed.

I don't see how anyone who claims to like baseball can say that soccer is boring...
