If the 15th Alabama had driven the 20th Maine off the Little Big Top at Gettysburg, we'd still be two countries.Virginia produced every Confederate soldier worth a damn. Alabama produced mainly cannon fodder.

College data warehouse says the first Auburn-Georgia game was played in February of 1892, so I guess they win. Not sure what they were doing playing in February but there it is.AlabamAlum wrote:Dr. Strangelove wrote:Looked it up. Looks like it's kind of a draw.
First game on the same day?

As I said, cannon fodder. I'm sure Chamberlain broke into a huge grin when he saw the regimental colors of the poltroons scrambling up the hill. He'd probably been worried they were Mississippians.Professor Tiger wrote:If the 15th Alabama had driven the 20th Maine off the Little Big Top at Gettysburg, we'd still be two countries.Virginia produced every Confederate soldier worth a damn. Mississippians? Meh. If he saw Georgians coming, he'd have presented his sword. Georgians had already defended the stone wall at Fredricksburg, the Burnside's bridge at Antietam, and would spearhead Pickett's charge the next day at Gettysburg. As I said, cannon fodder. North Carolinians were called "Tar Heels" because they needed the tar on their feet to keep them from running.

Re: Auburn Tigers
Wow. SEC QB's got no respect in the NFL draft this year.
Johnny Manziel - 22nd overall pick
A.J. McCarron - 164th pick
Aaron Murray - 163rd pick
Zach Mettenberger - 178th pick
What's up with that?

What's up with you listing 164 ahead of 163?

Re: Auburn Tigers
Didn't someone project Aaron Murray as a #1 overall a couple of years ago? I never thought he was that sort of talent but it's hard to believe he dropped that far. He's in a great spot though and could very well start at some point next year.
It's interesting (to me) that Mettenberger plead guilty to sexual assault but it was hardly mentioned (if at all) during the draft process. But I expect it to be the hot topic next year when Winston goes pro, and he wasn't charged. Certainly Winston is a much higher profile pro prospect but it is curious.

Re: Auburn Tigers
Manziel was one dangerous QB. Talented and fiercely competitive. Reminds me of Brett Favre.
Murray's career stats are outstanding. The only downside I see in him is his smallish recent injury. Reminds me of Drew Breeze.
McCarron has good career stats too, but his biggest job was to hand off the football to monster backs. He is correctly described as a "game manager." I guess NFL teams aren't going to pay big bucks to a game manager. On his best days, reminds me of Terry Bradshaw.
Mettenberger never impressed me. Reminds me of Jamarcus Russell.

Right on cue: now we know why Mettenberger dropped so far:

That report came out a week ago. Mettenberger's agent has already said they're fighting the test results; supposedly his physical therapist has him drink 1.5 gallons of water per day to assist in the surgery recovery. His test results were for a diluted urine sample, not necessarily a positive test. Unless he actually tested positive for something more serious than MJ, I don't think it would impact his draft status that much. Jernigan also failed but was drafted in the middle of the second round despite a poor showing at the combine.

Re: Auburn Tigers
When I was in the Army, I knew somebody who failed a urine test because it was a "diluted urine sample." That's a nice way of saying, "He poured tap water into the specimen container instead of peeing into it to avoid getting caught."

Re: Auburn Tigers
Oh, there's no question it was probably an intentional sabotaging of the test, but I guess there's a 1% chance he's being honest here.

Even where he was drafted, he'll eat. In two years, he will leave the rigors of holding the clipboard and sell insurance.

Re: Auburn Tigers
Auburn picked up a nice commitment from Jovon Robinson, a 5 star player rated the #1 JUCO RB in the country.
He is considered by some to be this year's Calloway/Yeldon/Foster/Evans. I myself am not so pessimistic. For starters, he isn't a LB from Auburn High. I won't worry about him unless he gets a large AU tattoo.
