It's an three-option offense - penetrate to the rack, kick out for the three or lob for the dunk. When the ball is kicked out, if a three is not taken, the process starts over with penetration for a bucket, a kick-out or a lob (the big must move to the opposite block on the drive). At Memphis, with Rose, CDR and company, Cal's team ran it. At UK, the 2012 and 2010 squads ran it best. Thought they'd be much better at it this year with the three-guards that can drive and shoot, but they've been more stagnant on offense more than any other year (save last season's abomination). Lot of that was probably stand around and watch Randle do his thing, but that's no excuse.
That sounds like the shit I've seen in HS and rec games forever. I guess Cal just put a catchy name on it and uses it as bait to haul in recruits (along with the money orders from WorldWideWes...)

It is most definitely a simple offense - virtually no screening at all. But, with the right personnel, it can be extremely effective - especially against pack line defense

But the right personnel, as Calipari has secured in his time at UK, should be able to run just about any offense effectively.

I still think its more about landing the hottest PG out there

definitely a good bit of marketing by Cal but no reason for the media types to keep parroting it as an offensive philosophy that's unique to Cal. Of course, it's fun to say so there's that.

yeah, the unique to Cal thing is ridiculous. Outside of a pure isolation/pick and roll offense, the dribble-drive is closest to NBA. None of these OADs wanna run the Wisconsin Swing, or Bobby Knight's Motion, or the Flex that requires screening and moving without the ball as opposed to taking the ball to the rack and being athletic

Anthony Grant invented an offense. It involves one guy with a ball dribbling for 25 seconds while the other four stand and watch him. After the 25 seconds is up, we have the option to clang a three-ball off the rim or a turnover.

The beauty of it is that opposing defenses have never seen anything quite like it.

Grant is a trendsetter - UK ran that offense quite a bit this year

Nope, sorry, that is the famous Saul Smith stall implemented in 1999.

it's too bad the cnnsi and the worldcrossing forums bit the dust. I'd love to have a print out from every board at both places to read over when I'm too old to get out of my chair.

I just Googled "sysop judy cnnsi" and found this from a poster named Joker on Patriots Fans Messageboard:

Re: Stupid press tricks
I used to post at CNNSI way way back...heh..I remember this one sysop, Judy...she read our AFC East thread and promptly banned half the members because we abused her a little bit...the best part was logging back in as Joker_,Joker__,Joker____, and Joker________...and then Joe Carr, Joe Kerr, Joey Carramundi, Joseph Automobile...heh...so one day I get an e-mail from Judy begging me not to be influenced by the rest of the cut-ups..."Dear Mr. Automobile..." it started out.

Yeah, I think she ended up in a strait jacket...and then the tennis freaks complained that we football people were big meanies....until someone got a pic of one of the tennis "gals" and she turned out to be Indy heiferesque....those WERE the days...dial up...no twitter...just seat of your pants hell raising...
RobAllan and supafly like this.

Dribble drive not an offense it is, it is a Bill Rafferty catch phrase, the offense is called 4 out and sometimes run 5 out.
